Ferrothorn is a pokemon with very low speed and very low special attack. Its greatest strength lies in its attack, defense, and special defense stats. It works very well in trick room because it is one of the slowest pokemon and can learn gyro ball (gyro ball's power is not affected by trick room). Ferrothorn works even better if you give it the ability iron barbs and the item rocky helmet or leftovers. If you give it iron barbs combined with rocky helmet any physical attackers (such as mega kangaskhan or mega lopunny) will take lots of damage if you made a surprise switch in with ferrothorn when they are least expecting it. Using the ability iron barbs and the item rocky helmet or leftovers I would suggest giving ferrothorn the moves leech seed, protect, power whip, and thunder wave. You may be wondering why I chose thunder wave instead of gyro ball. I chose it because even though gyro ball is a powerful move it is will not work very well against another very slow pokemon like aegislash. Also thunder wave on a ferrothorn can be so disruptive to your opponent. I have won many battles because of this strategy. With the moves thunder wave and leech seed and the item leftovers, ferrothorn can gain so much health back very quickly and will stay on the field for a long time.

Ferrthorn is useless against fire type pokemon.

Ferrothorn may be very weak against fire pokemon but if you max out its defense and special defense it can even tank moves like fire blast and flare blitz. I know because my ferrothorn has done this.

You got to be kidding!!!tell ferrothorn detail nature everything.

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers/Rocky Helmet/Shed Shell
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Stealth Rock/Spikes
- Leech Seed
- Gyro Ball/Power Whip
- Power Whip/Protect/Thunder Wave

You might want to consider using a format like this when posting Pokemon movesets, it makes it organized and easier to read, also I wouldn't advise staying in on a Fire Blast, Lava Plume, Flamethrower, Flare Blitz etc because while in some cases Ferrothorn can live one, it won't appreciate it and it's better to switch out unless you're foddering it off.

252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 168 SpD Ferrothorn in Sun: 960-1132 (272.7 - 321.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
0 SpA Heatran Lava Plume vs. 252 HP / 168 SpD Ferrothorn: 336-396 (95.4 - 112.5%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO
0 SpA Clefable Flamethrower vs. 252 HP / 168 SpD Ferrothorn: 192-228 (54.5 - 64.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Mega Charizard X Flare Blitz vs. 252 HP / 88+ Def Ferrothorn: 432-508 (122.7 - 144.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Pokémon Pro,

My ferrothorn is used as a specially defensive pokemon. It has the sassy nature with maxed out HP and special defense. It also holds an occa berry which makes the fire attacks do less. I have also used ferrothorn as a physically defensive pokemon. It has the impish nature with maxed out physical defense and HP. It holds an occa berry as well.

While we are talking with each other I was wondering if you would like to exchange friend codes?

Lios,

Thanks for the advice. Maybe there is something wrong with my ferrothorn because it has taken moves like fire blast, flare blitz, and flamethrower and still have 3/4 of its health left.

If you're battling on Wifi, it could always be that your opponent has poor IVs/EVs but yeah instead of trying to build your Ferro to tank Fire type attacks better, you'd be better off making sure Ferro has synergy with the other members of the team with Fire resists/immunities like Latias or Heatran.

I still cannot believe it, i want challenge you right now.
