So I have bought Y, and I have made a team. However, I would like to add a Ferrothorn, but is it good? By that I mean competitively. He is overused, but sometimes that means the Pokemon is good. Here's the team:
Empoleon
Haxorus
Hawlucha
Talonflame
Sylveon
Stunfisk

Ferrothorn is a pretty great Utility mon and unlike Pokemon like Chansey, it's not complete Taunt bait. Ferrothorn can actually deal decent damage with Power Whip/Gyro Ball while recovering HP through Leech Seed and Leftovers, setting up entry hazards and it can even switch in on moves like U Turn to punish the opponent's Pokemon with Iron Barbs damage.

Ferrothorn is very tough and useful in many points that you can use him in . The Pokemon has many utilities as Lios said so that can be used for a competitive advantage in battling . Ferrothorn also is a nice Pokemon for a defensive bulk towards your team with using leech seed

Frrothorn is so awesome but whenever I use it, I usually die in one shot ;_; If you really use it to its full potential, it can be the greatest 'mon on your team :D Make sure to have a Counter for fire type attacks or else you will for sure get OHKO by Fire punch/Fire Blast or something. :)

Preferably Ferrothorn is all defense to make full use of Iron Barbs and maybe Rocky Helmet if you want. He also has immunity to powder moves/Leech Seed/Poison. And with its two weaknesses to fighting and fire its hard to go wrong with it. Personally I think it's a tough Pokemon to swallow against any team.

It is actually really easy for go wrong with :/ (For me at least :rotfl:) If you don't have counters against fire type moves, you will lose very easily :/ All HP and Defense I think is best. All HP and split some Defense and SP.Defense also works :D

P.S. Are you sexist!? You said, "he" the Ferrothorn could be a girl as well you know! :rage: I am calling the President to have you promptly tortured for not have followed the 16th rule in the consitution!!!!!

I think ferrothorn is a really good pokemon being a steel type it has an advantage over fairy types. Being a steel types its deffense is wicked plus with its iron barb ability it can deal damage to any pokemon that makes physical contact. Furthermore it is also a good grass type because of its power whip move which has 120 power. Overall this pokemon made black 2 a joyful experience for me however it was a pain when it was s ferroseed

Ferrothorn is very efficient as a battler. His defenses are superb, he has a very usable attack stat, and under Trick Room he's far more scary than these things would suggest. Despite that though, what really makes him stand out is that he is the best PKMN when it comes stacking residual damage. Between Iron Barbs, Rocky Helmet, and Stealth Rock (assuming super effective damage) he typically knocks off 50% of his opponents health before he even has a chance to attack and for that to be a consistently reliable thing, he should be viable for any team. The only other PKMN even capable of this is Garchomp, but the thing that makes Ferrothorn better at it is that Ferrothorn has a significantly higher chance of countering his counter, unlike Garchomp, whose best counter is Garchomp. When someone see's a Ferrothorn and counters by switching in a fire type and loses 50% of its HP after attacking first and not killing it (74/131/116), a lot of the time Ferrothorn, can 1HKO with Earthquake or if not running Earthquake, 1HKO with Iron Head since so many fire types have absurdly low defense stats.

Don't doubt him, Ferrothorn's a beast, if you're considering one for your team, try him out, he's worth a team slot.

Ferrothorn is probably the core for my defensive stall team. I can counter it's weaknesses by switching out to Chandelure (Flash Fire) and Jellicent (Immune to Fighting) to counter it's weaknesses.

Ferrothorn was easily the best non-legendary Pokemon to come from Black & White. Havin stellar defenses, a good typing, an amazing movepool with moves like Stealth Rock, Spikes, Leech Seed, and so forth, making it one of the best support Pokemon in the entire game. Although weak to common Fighting and Fire moves, most of the time Ferrothorn is able to shrug them off, lay hazards, hurt the opponent with Iron Barbs, or cripple them. The only problems with Ferrothorn are its dismally low Speed, and no reliable recovery, but it makes up for these shortcomings by being the best defensive pivot in OU
It's 0 IV/EVs in Speed make Gyro Ball a living nightmare for some, since it's Speed governs how powerful that move is. Ferro doesn't need to be fast, IMO. It can take hits easily enough to set-up Stealth Rock and Leech Seed.

When I use Ferrothorn I give it stealth rock, spikes, gyro ball, and thunder wave. Thunder wave is so Ferrothorn goes first, stealth rock and spikes so when they switch out they get damaged instantly. Gyro ball for damage, you need to make your Ferrothorn slow so thunder wave makes you go first. So Ferrothorn is a good pokemon

Ferrothorn is probably one of the best utility mons in OU. Having access to stealth rocks, leech seeds, and the ability iron barbs makes this pokemon a great teammate. Have it hold a rocky helmet with those iron barbs and if anyone tried to hit you with a physical attack then they would really regret it. Plus gyro ball is a great attacking move so it's not completely outplayed by taunt users,
