Any tips on how you level characters up?

The best way to level up your characters would be the DLC but if you don't have it then just buy those reeking boxes and battle in areas which are close to the level of the party you take in. Then just pair up those weaker ones with your stronger characters and you should be able to steamroll through. Plus the gold you earn from these battles should pay for more boxes.
