Does not save data nor purchase info on the system ....
if anything goes wrong with your SD card you lose it all !
I lost my purchases I made with real money and all my hard work because I tried to take pictures that id taken from animal crossing and put them on PC to crop and upload (my PC has heating issues I had a few to many up at the time and it blue-screened while transfer the photos with sd card still in -_-)..
So on that note keep a backup of your 3DS folder on your PC try to do a backup once a week or when ever you get new things .. make sure nothing is running while transferring the data to pc and date the folder ...
I am unsure if this could help down the line but its worth noting cause those games are free with paid purchases and you will have to start them ALL OVER ...
