Future One Piece?

What if One Piece was set in a present day setting?(there ARE some pirates today...) and everything was just slightly altered but still the same characters,comedy and action! do you think'll work? Or it's better in it's current time?
 
They can use google maps to find the one piece. (y)
Honestly, if it were in a modern setting, I don't think I'd enjoy it as much. There's not much 'adventure' now a days in my opinion because in terms of land and treasures, I think we do it the safe or boring way find them. I don't know if it'll work but I like OP how it is now. That's just what I think

You're right....I was hoping something barbaric could happen to force them to only some technology, then have them facing more artillery:Luffy vs a Military fleet today would look awesome!! But you're right about it being boring in other aspects, only the fighting scenes would be exciting...
 
For some strange reason, I hadn't even though about the fighting. I wonder what the action would be like. Modern warfare is based on guns and tanks and other stuff I don't know much about. With devil fruits in the mix, it adds a supernatural element that would definitely change things up.

Then again, I feel like I'm taking this way too seriously. If it's one piece, it would be fun and amazing either way :)
