Lol the cool kid slang: LegitWell SMB3 had the toad houses with the slot type games and matching ones (and digging if you had an E-Reader). NSMB had gambling minigames on it (with cards and coins. It was legit gambling).
I don't think it's the gambling I would consider bad, it's more of a fun-to-bet gamble, nothing addictive, or attract some's attention, enough to make them addicted to it. And, a lot of games today have gambling like that, it's been present all the time..It isn't gambling technically...

With that concept, I can go to an arcade, spent one coin in a pinball arcade, and if I have luck. I can get an extra game.
It would be gambling in some way.
Oh, yeah, I remember. It's a fun game with progressive codes to continue your last gameplay. It was more fun to see the outcome than actually gamble (at least for me).Though not a 1st party game, there was a big casino game back on the SNES that was fun to play.
