Gen 1 Good Water Pokemon?

I'm looking for a good get me around water type (Pokemon Yellow), I'm thinking Gyarados but it's just a pain to level him up from level 15 by the 5th badge >.<. I like blastoise but I don't wanna abuse the accessibility to all the kanto starters lol. Any suggestions?
 
Do you need it early or later on in the game? If you need early then I think Staryu/Starmie can suffice. If you can wait a little later then I would recommend either Lapras or Vaporeon.

I was thinking Lapras but I'm lazy xD but I'm probably gonna take that path..

Yea when I read Gen 1 Water Pokemon the first thing that came to mind was Lapras xD

But grinding in gen 1 isn't as easy as it is now. Would you really be willing to train a karp up level 20 for that? I knoe I wouldn't xD (Call me lazy, but I dont care)

Super rod in fushia but Lapras would just be easier xD (I'm lazy too.)
 
Choose Squirtle for a water type when you find the NPC who gives you one. Blastoise is a very good water Pokemon in Kanto.

Twas gonna but I already got charmeleon in mah team over squirtle lol.

Does it matter if you have Charmeleon? Doesn't mean you can't utilise a Squirtle anyway. :p

Besides, if there's concerns for having too many starters you should already be using Pikachu with Charmeleon anyway.

In genration 1 it was really lack of good water type pokemon few good pokemon i remeber are gyrados ,balstoise ,lapras starmie and slowpoke

Anyways i suggust you to go after gyrados is really good pokemon and also have great movepool and basic stats are also great but it 4 times weak to electric pokemon.

Starmie, Gyarados, Lapras, Poliwrath, Kingler, Cloyster, Blastoise, etc


Water types are the most abundant by farin gen I of I'm not mistaken
