Have you guys heard of google cardboard? I just ordered one on amazon and it's really amazing. It's basically a cardboard oculus rift. Basically, it's a cardboard viewer with lenses that you put your phone in. Then, presto, your phone becomes a virtual reality device. Its really cool and it will surely bring more development to the world of VR due to its low investment cost. Maybe nintendo can have a second crack at virtual reality this time. It's a really nifty device that uses your phones gyroscope to sense movement and a magnet to click objects.
Check out this video here for a more detailed explanation.

A very good idea. There should be a strap to prevent tired arms XD
I will wait and see how VR is going to develop further. From the cost it worth trying.
The idea of seeing places (like google streetview) via this thing is great, but I doubt there is much to do with gaming.
Watching video might be a pain when you have to hold it like that all the time.

Let me know what you think when you received your cardboard ;)

I actually already received mine. It took a about week to come. After testing it out for many hours for the past two days, I have to say that this is amazing, providing an engaging, interactive experience. It works the best with android phones as they support the cardboard app, but it does work with the iPhone with select apps. I really wish apple would innovate more though, they are really falling behind.
Actually, this has a lot of potential for gaming in the future, just search the oculus rift on google. It started as a Kickstarter project and now Facebook has bought the company. Although it is still in development, it has a wide selection of open source games, and developers are constantly tweaking and adding more games into the mix. However, this costs a hefty $350. Google cardboard solves this issue by providing a very affordable device that can be used for beta testing. Sure, it may not replace the oculus rift, but it will bring much more development to vr and vr gaming. There may not be too much gaming as of now, but I have no doubt that here will be in the future. I hope nintendo will have a second crack at the virtual boy, 4ds maybe :).

with the vr, it might be more possible for consoles without touchscreen. So maybe it have to be something else other than DS genre. I think a 4ds is less possible than VR maybe? It might be hard for the game to generate water or wind or something lol.

It's disappointing that iphone is not supported :(
Anyway I will wait and see :D

Woah thanks for showing me this! It pretty awesome. At first I thought the title was some sort of joke (like useless google glasses or something). I think I am going to make one myself, and another, and another and another until it's perfect and go wild on them with paint so they look super nice. It seems pretty easy to attach a headstrap. (Or for the hardcore DIY-fans; Why not Ducttape? XD) The DIY instructions are for download on the official website and it looks pretty easy. https://developers.google.com/cardboard/ The stuff needed except for cardboard is available in kits too but you can also buy your own. :artist:

There are readmade sets available for the lazy people. ;) I also found a couple of plastic versions complete with headstraps for around $30. http://www.hypergridbusiness.com/2014/08/where-to-buy-google-cardboard/ That's more expensive than the cardboard ones but waaay cheaper than oculus rift.

And for our Apple-fanboys; it works with iPhones too! http://www.cnet.com/how-to/use-your-google-cardboard-vr-headset-with-your-iphone/
Now we need some more VR apps. Some apps; http://vr.chromeexperiments.com/#/desktop

The youtube id with reactions on Google Cardboard is pretty funny.
