I don't know if any of you have completed it since, you don't actually have the option to save! I actually did complete it's during the summer holidays, it took a long time but it was worth it! So have you completed the game on the NES?

I was a tryhard when I got a NES and Mario on it. I finished it about a million times and found all the secrets. Even now I remember the first 12-20 levels of it :p

Yes, I sure did complete it. I know there was no save feature, but everytime when I would get tired of playing, I would switch the AV mode on my TV so no one would tamper with my NES.
I hated the level in which you had to go over those pools of lava with those bouncing fireballs, I used to get so angry at that level xD. That was around world 8, I think.

Especially 8-4 would drive you crazy if you didn't know there's a hidden block that allows you to get into a pipe that allows you to move on. It's like a maze. I haven't completed the one on the NES but I could do that in SMBDX if I wanted to.

Exactly! I had so much trouble with 8-4, and I hate maze games. The worst part about 8-4 is there are no checkpoints anywhere near the middle.

I finished it a lot of times, sadly not in a legal way... (it was when I didn't know about piracy).

I suppose I will buy it some day for my 3DS, but for now, I have Super Mario Bros. 3 to beat first.

Do you mean specifically on the NES? If not, then I've beaten it several times. NES Classics for Gameboy Advance

I got to world 5-8, I think, on the 3DS Ambassador version, but something was wrong... No matter how much I ran, it was like being stuck in a nightmare... it never ends... it never ends...
(Yes, I did try alternate paths, and it changed a little but basically, I never finished that level.)

Yeah, I did complete it. and my brothers did too. :D Everybody in my family has finished Mario (except for my parents) :D Even my little cousin (who was 8-9 at that time) finished it and I was amazed because I thought he'd never complete the Level 8 castle.
