A lot of people are making an uproar about the friendly rival we got in Pokemon Let's GO Pikachu and Eevee :

IMO, his face doesn't look too friendly (lol) but I guess that's judging the book by its cover xD

How do you feel about the games having a friendly rival?

How would it be a rival than?

Personally I don't mind having a friendly rival in any Pokémon game, even though some may think it's odd when comparing to the original rival in RBY/FRLG, which is well... kinda rough. His face in Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee gives me the rough vibe tho, so I'm not sure if he's friendly or not, even when stated in the trailer.

You can be friendly and competitive at the same time :p

I like how it explicitly says "Friendly Rival" :p
Honestly I would have preferred a not friendly rival because usually it'd be a more satisfying opponent to defeat.

As long as he's as though as Hau, I really don't mind. He can be friendly but hardcore. If I have to work hard to defeat him I am fine. I am so HYPED....but I do not have a Switch. Or a TV....

(I mean, customising your trainer, and a piggyback riding Pokémon and them following you, and this all being in Kanto, being able to bring your Pokémon with you irl just like the Pokéwalker from HeartGold, and motion control and co-op playing- this is all the cool elements from all the earlier games plus some bonusses. SO HYPED)

That title says a lot. Meaning he probably lets you win or something like that. That would be something new to see and since the game seems to be easy by the mechanics they added it all just makes sense and because of that I doubt he'd even become champion since we've seen it already. I think Jesse and James are gonna be the new champions.

I was all with you until that last line. Jesse & James as champions? That would be a shocker. (But pretty cool)

Personally I don't like them , but I get why they chose this direction. I remember playing Sun and having Hau as your friend/rival and man he was super nice I felt like I was the mean rival . lol

A friendly rival is nothing particularly new; Barry of generation IV was a pretty nice guy after all. Since Pokémon Let's GO Pikachu and Eevee are supposedly reboots of Pokémon Yellow, the contrast between a "friendly rival" and Gary Oak is pretty clear. On the other hand, a friendly rival like Barry might fit the laid-back nature of Let's GO better than a stuck-up smack-talker like Gary. (Omg guys its Barry v. Gary ;-; )

I honestly don't really care. Of course having a conpetitive rival is cool but there is nothing really wrong with a friendly one. Hau wasn't really competitive at all, and I don't really think of him as a rival, just more of a super friendly friend in the game. Gary in the original game was not really friendly at all, and I kind of like that.

I think this rival will be competitive and not too overly friend. A perfect mix of both.
