How do you guys determine your TRUE main

Hey guys. I just cant seem to find a good character to main. I've done testings, weaknesses, strategies, overall stats, but I just can't seem to find a comfortable main. But ive finally broken it down to 5 characters. Mario,Yoshi,Kirby,Villager,and Falco. (I don't do Little Macs or Zero Suits) So I don't want a flat out answer, I just want to know how to truly determine your main. thanks.
 
For me I use whoever controls the easiest. I understand why you would rule out Little Mac. He's really strong but also very hard to control. It usually comes down to a character's recovery or strength for me. I really like Ganon because of his strength but getting knocked off sucks. I do like little Mac even though he is hard to control and super frustrating to use properly. Now that I think about it more I really like Dark Pit. Yea he's a Pit clone but I like him just because of his attitude.
 
I got a Method actually. In brawl, my true main stood beetwen Link, Ganondorf and Ike. To decide which one of them would be my main, I fought against a lvl 9 fox, final destination, no items With all 3 of the characters. The one that knocked out Fox the most times became my main, and that was Link :).

That's an amazing strategy. I don't know how I had never thought of this before. I doubt I'm good enough to even beat him under those circumstances though. I'm so bad at smash. But hey, practice makes perfect.

Oh no, I think you misunderstood :). I dont have smash bros 3ds, and i meant that im happy to help you With a strategy to determine Your true main :)

My advice is to keep playing the characters against level 9 cpu on omega stages. Whichever gets you the most wins is probably your best. Anyway you can main multiple characters. I have three mains and another four or five I can pretty adequately play.

I determine my main by: seeing which characters I find intersting. Seeing how they play and the best stratigies for them. Seeing how well they do against lvl 9 CPUs and online. thats how I find My mains. I am more into up close characters so mine would be, bowser, little mac, mii brawler, ect. and on the rare occasion, duck hunt and Bowz Jr.

I like to play as characters that can fight Close combat, but they also have ranged attacks. I think it is fun to shoot Arrows at the opponents, and then suddenly Draw Your sword and rush into Close combat! Thats why I like characters such as Link, Pit, Megaman, Pikachu and Snake(in brawl).

I LOVE using Mega Man against characters like King DeDeDe and Bowser Becasue you can stop their smash attacks by using his A attack! and you can stop Bowser From grabbing you and sacrificial K.O. I hate that so mucgh especially when they sopam it! :punch:

Yes, mega mans A attack is awesome (I used it the demo), and I also loved to use Bowsers wrestling attack(as I Call it lol) in brawl. All of my friends raged when they was leading with one point, and I was Bowser and used the wrestling attack with them into the pit, and I got the point!

well I like playing with zero suit, in my opinion I find her moves pretty good and her controls are easy to handle for me. I also like using robin. I determine my main by how easy they are to control, their move's damage, and how well they do in both ground and air, and their speed. that's just the way I test them out.

I just take whoever I feel more comfortable with. Whetehr it's busting combos or just how they play in general. Also if you win a lot with them, it's not so hard to pick them out.

My method(in Brawl,at least) is to use the character and imagine I'm playing on a tournament,but I will probally try @jimbobro 's method,since I don't have a specific main,those being Luigi,Falco,Mr.Game & Watch and Sonic.

Well, I pick my mains based on their look, and then knock off others when i start playing them.
I started out with Little Mac, Robin, Ike(previous mains incoming) Luigi, Mario Ganon and Link.
I dropped Ike, because I didn't like his new playstyle, But it was nothing compared to how fast Robin lost my favour.
