How do you play SSB 3DS? What items and rules do you use?

I love all the different rules and options you can set to have some insane fun with this game. I know that everyone has their own personal preferences and rules they use. My question is what rules or options do you use and play with?

I don't have the full game yet, although I do have the demo. My play style is an aggressive, rush-in style. I use Link as my main character in the demo, and Link's attacks are powerful Especially when you run up to an enemy and jump attack them.
Another character I use is Mega Man. Mega Man is a Smasher with a great jump height, and possesses one of the best aerial attacking sets. You can easily get above your enemies, and if they are below you, you can come down on them like a hammer on a glass.

Since I'm an aspiring competitive Player, I do the typical competitive ruleset: No Items, Omega Stages. Besides, Level Nines are hard enough without the luck factor...

Surprisingly, I found level 9's to be astonishingly easy. You need to have near-perfect timings, and that's what I got back in the day from playing SSBM. I guess my skills brushed off :p

I played more Brawl, so that's probably why I'm a bit off kilter. There are some days I do it no problem, but when I'm first learning a character... Ow.

Also, something I realized from playing For Glory which ties into this: people spam a lot.

That's TRUE. I had a lot of trouble trying to learn Pikachu, he's too quick for me.

I have to agree that the CPU's in this game are much easier than ones in the past (or it seems that way). Everyone I know including me can beat them easily. I also got my head handed to me on the For Glory mode by people spamming the same moves over and over.

I play stock 2 or 3 stocks with 6-8 minutes respectively. I honestly like stock with no items better because it is a game of sklls to me and I want to get better at. Items dont contribute to skill cuz a single bomb can kill at an early percent whereas in a competitive battles the percent can stack to as high as 150%. That is my point of view tho. others may play withe items on for the fun of it. It really is fun but kind of annoying sometimes.

I usually play with 5 stocks with items turned on. When items are turned on, it feels like you have to use more strategy as you have to use them properly.

I use this persons rules (looks like an average tournament ruling because I've seen games start with exactly 7 minutes and 30 seconds on the clock counting down). Although items only work if they are used right and they hit. Most of the time that never happens unless someone is either really trying or the hit person isn't trying at all. Also I like it if I use stages with almost no hazards or at least ones that get in the way. If I'm creating the room I'll set certain normal stages off. Customs or not usually it's a fun battle.

I always play without items since even if they probably need skills to be used properly (you need to aim correctly when you have a bomb for example), they still appear randomly, and I don't like winning or losing due to chance. And when I can choose the stage, I either choose an Omega form or a stage that doesn't move too much, for the same reason why I disable items.

I use custom characters in All-Star but I don't change the attacks, only the strength/defense/speed (don't know how they are called in English). And I don't use custom characters when playing against my friends (kind of the same reason as the one used for items, you can lose because someone had better equipement. Ok, it's not as random as items but it's still not skill only).

No time limit, 3 or 4 stock.

I've a group of fighters I use the most, and the style of each one are various : Donley Kong, Sheik, Daraen, Luigi and (less often) Meta knight

My strategy is always the same : set myself against my opponent on hitting him mostly, I grab the objects and use it by launching on my opponent to grab again just after. The stage choice is not important, and I always make an Smash with 10 stock, without time limit.

I use my custom character in each mode where it is possible (Classic, All-star, Smash Run)... unless when I'm playing in Smash mode (Versus mode) against another player (for same reason than Hayleia), but I change stats AND moves of my character, and I'll try to give at each one the best element which give the most level up in a stat and the least level down in another stat, and in each stat (strength/defense/speed)

I use a semi-aggressive Ike fighting style, switching between custom and default when wanted by others. I mostly rely on my attacks either having priority or canceling out. Usually 3 stock matches with items on or off, but most OP items off. My setup with custom Ike is Tempest, Unyielding blade, Aether dive, and Smash counter.

I usually set the rules to 3 stock (not a fan of having a time limit) and no items (gives you an unfair advantage). On another note, I don't block any attacks (I like to be on the offensive) or sidestep. :p

I do jump sometimes to dodge attacks though. I try not to stay on the edge on the stages. xD

I like playing 5 and 7-minute smash. When I am playing with stocks, I usually set up to 5 stocks. I like playing with every item in the game. My favorite character is my mii brawler, with these special attacks: neutral+b: 3 side+b:3 up+b:2 down+b: 2!
I don't have the wii u version but I have the 3ds one!

I play 3 stocks, 8 minutes, no items.

I like using a 10 stock match with only hammers being dropped as items. It is really fun haha. For regular skill training I usually do items off omega stages and a 1 stock free for all with lvl 8 cpus

playing with only hammers enabled is a great idea, because the hammers are very good to K.O. someone, and a funny item too. I never tried this before but I will certainly like it. Thanks for giving me this great idea. Very good, yeah!

Three stocks, eight minutes or no time (Usually no time) and I usually have items off, but having them on is fun sometimes. As for stages, it doesnt really matter, and I dont usually choose omega stages because thats not really competitive. Battlefield is my favorite stage, since its the most balanced out of all stages for Smash Bros.

I run 2 stocks, items off, Omega stages if I want to have a quick match, or bump it up to 4-5 for a longer match. When I play with friends, we either go for casual all items, 5 stock matches, or no items if we want a more competitive game (although sometimes we leave the final smash item in for the heck of it).
