I have a father with 31 iv att and sp a
Mother with defence and sp d
I used the destiny knot on the father and it only came out as 31 att on the child
How does the destiny knot work?

It passes down 5IVs from both parents, as far as I remember. It doesn't matter which parent holds it, but make sure the other one holds everstone for the right nature. The IVs which pass through the destiny knot are random, but you have to keep trying until you get the right breeds >.<
