I've heard positive comments about The World Ends With You and people always recommend it. I'm here wondering why it's so good and if it's worth getting over other good RPGs that are currently out there :redpanda:

I haven’t played it, but here are some reasons i plan to get it.

The combat is very unique, using touch controls to control your characters movement and ability usage.

The characters are cool, and the art style is cool,

The plot is very interesting, having timers on people’s hands and tasks that must be completed before the timer runs out or else.. idk maybe the world ends?

I've played it. Combat and story are very unique, and the game itself is sometimes credited as saving the jrpg genre. Overall it's solid and well made but not entirely my cup of tea.

The DS game is hands down one of my favourite games of all time. Innovative controls which became more fun as you played it, great story with relatable characters you actually care about and an excellent soundtrack. It's also set in Japan, with ultra stylized art which is great. Interesting systems and classic jrpg elements as well.

I'm not sure how the Switch version is, but if it is even half as good as the DS version I can't recommend it more.

oi have the switch version and im enjoying it so far, also there is a co-op mode where someone can control the current partner if you want(or control both at the same time, since one player use only one joycon, but that could be kinda a chaos to manage by yourself), and the partners will have their own attacks, but they arent customizable like neku, also, have in mind they share the same lifebar

the game level up your attacks (pins) when you are not playing, its usefull also pins can evolve either by combat or not playing
the only dowside have found that is hard to play in tv, with the wireless control, i guess if you get used to it its not so bad, but its easier to get used to the touchscreen of the portable mode

I think if solo, try and get the DS version which is simply a better combat system, but if you can play co-op then the Switch would be lovely

The game cannot be compared to other games imo just because everything in it is just so unique. At least, the combat I wasn't sure about since it's all touch controls (or you can use motion controls but I've not played like that), but after a couple battles, and learning about the different pins at the start it was very fun.

The story is quite difficult to explain without spoiling a lot of it. But effectively you play as Neku, and you are thrown into a week long game ran by people named "reapers". You end up being partnered up with Shiki and have to complete the mission for each day in order to not get "erased" (killed) by said reapers.

The mechanics get quite complex though especially once you start going into evolving pins, brand trends, raising stats with food. However once you actually have a look at them, they're really well done.

The game is pretty well polished imo, and as someone who went into this game knowing litually nothing about it, I was very pleasantly surprised. The characters are pretty good as well, they have good stories to them imo, and Mr Hanekoma is my favourite character out of all the games I've played (so far :eyes:)
