How to aim a charge shot with bow ?

Basically what the title says.

Let's say that I started to charge a shot while circling. Now, I'd like to send my arrow in that Deviljho's head, so I have to aim high. I press R to enter aiming mode but then, if I am still holding X, how do I use my right stick to aim ? Or is there a way to get the left stick to be used to aim ? And notice it's the same if I invert X and R in the control options. So is it just impossible to aim after I started charging or did I miss something ?

Answering to myself after I experimented all options instead of reading their descriptions, because their descriptions are not explanative at all.

Type 1 controls for Bow:
Hold X to charge
Hold R to aim

Type 2 controls for Bow:
Hold R to charge
Press X to toggle aiming mode

And the descriptions of both modes were implying that both were equivalent, just that the keys were inverted.
So yeah, to aim after charging, just use Type 2 and press X.

In 3U, I was able to aim just fine (3U only had Type 1), but I haven't used bow in 4U, admittedly haha

Well yeah, aiming is possible with both types, but were you able to aim after you started to charge in 3U ?

Yeah, I would use the dpad

Ah, well that's exactly what I was looking for in 4U but I didn't find it. I wanted to hold X to charge and hold R to aim with the DPad but nope, I can only aim with the right pad.

Well I still can't find the option that would allow me to use Type 1 controls (X to charge, R to aim) and aim with the D Pad. When I press R, I get the reticle etc, but moving the D Pad makes my character move, not change the direction of the shot. The right pad however changes that direction but is unusable if I am pressing X.

I hate the bow Oh really. That's very interesting

Why do you hate all weapons I use ? :p
No seriously, why do you hate the bow ?

@Hayleia, the bow IS a really good weapon, BUT it is useless if you try to solo something! If you only use bow, without a secondary option, you are just asking for trouble. About the topic now, have you tried all controls (I mean D-Pad, Analog, C-Stick/Pro Stick)?

Oh ,don't worry, that's not my main weapon ^^
And yeah, I use the controle type that shoots with R and I am able to keep R pressed while aiming with the Circle Pad :)

What's your main? Mine is GS, NO secondary!:D I haven't gotten 4U yet, but I do play it every now and then on my friend's card. just assuming the bow controls for now. Don't forget that the game was made for use with the N3DS, so it may expect you to use C-stick or something.

My main is DB. It's so awesome with Para and the Mizuha set :D
And yeah, I know it uses the C-Stick or the Circle Pad, it's just that one of the control sets is stupid: how can you use your C-Stick or Circle Pad to aim if yout thumb is already busy on the X button to charge your shot ?

Use your index finger for ABXY, your thumb for touch control/C-stick and your middle finger for the R button! It may sound strange, but back in the day if you couldn't do at least THIS, you were better off not playing! There were games that actually DEPENDED on you being able to bend your fingers like that!
PS: How do you manage without any block? Do you dodge a lot or do you have strong armor?

Yeah, that's why they added the new control type :p
Basically, the only games I don't play on PC are Smash on GC or 3DS games, so don't ask me to hold my 3DS weirdly, it won't work :p

Told you, that's not my main weapon :p
I basically only use my bow for the fun when not doing G-Rank stuff.

And for DB, I dodge a lot. That's why I have a lot of armors with at least Evasion+1, which is really convenient when in (arch)demon mode since you can do really quick dodges but still with a longer invincibility.
But I also have a lot of defense of course, my Mizuha can go up to 801 :p

I was asking in general since none of the weapons you use seems to have any blocking. I don't know about you, but I prefer to just block over dodging, mainly because even the block on GS does the status damage on a monster (eg:slime)! I just make sure to dodge the too blunt attacks and have high sharpness. I've been doing this ever since MH1 and it works like a charm! Believe it or not, I've never needed more than 5 whetstones in one quest! But I go with low armor (<400def) for extra diffculty:D

So true. I'm only good with SA, HH, IG, GS, LS, SnS. And I'm getting used to the Hammer, Lance, HBG.

I hate how you can't dodge with DB
Oh, evasion+1 was why you managed to dodge so many hits.

You get good at positioning/dodging after a while. A lot of people rarely use shielded weapons.

I didn't know that, I don't do group hunts at all! I prefer to solo everything with my trusty GS!
