Ultimate How to change characters while playing online with randoms?

Is it possible to change characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate when playing with the same randoms online when the match ends? Sometimes when I don't do well with Shulk, I want to play with the same people but test out on Kirby on them.

i hope nintendo patch this and give a option to the "preffered rules system" so that when you activate it you only play with those rules

For some reason, you can’t switch your character, unless you quit playing with the person you’re playing with. It’s honestly really annoying, because if I’m playing as Dark Samus, and they have a character that extracts her weaknesses, I’d most likely want to switch my character. But, until Nintendo fixes this error, I can’t, and you won’t be able to either. :/
