im trying to mass produce pichus with volt tackle, but i have yet to even hatch one with the move. i know in previous games you had to give the parent that was a pikachu or raichu a light ball, but i got no idea where to even start looking. please help? thanks in advance.

You need to attach a light ball to a Pikachu or Raichu and put it in the Day Care with its partner. The offspring should have the move volt tackle and I think once it evolves, it'll be able to pass down the move without the light ball when breeding it.

great, thanks! but where do i even get it? in x and y i mean. do i have to find it in the wild? i just did a google search and it seems to me that its best to go to santalune forest and use a pokemon with compound eyes, but i don't know which pokemon have compound eyes.

The only way to get it in X/Y (without trading, of course) is to catch a wild Pikachu holding it, :panda:

i got that, but i was asking how i could get a pokemon with compound eyes. i need to know which pokemon can have it

I just use frisk to see what item the wild Pokemon is holding, but here is a list of Pokemon with the compound eyes ability :
  • Butterfree
  • Dustox
  • Joltik and Galvantula
  • Nincada
  • Scatterbug and Vivillon
  • Venonat
  • Yanma

great! thanks! just for confirmation, is it true that the ability compoun eyes increases the chance of a wild pokemon holding an item?

Yup although I'm not sure by what percentage =/

i see. when i did a google search, a lot of people seemed to think it goes up by 50% when you do that, but i kind of think that may be exaggerated. i also know there's a lot of debate around the web as to exactly by how much your chances of finding a shiny in a horde are increased by. i've seen some people say 1 in 500 and others say it goes up by exactly 5 , which makes more sense considering how many pokemon you're encountering in one battle.

I can give you multiple Light Balls for 1PC if you need ;)

You can't breed it from a parent, it has to be bred using a light ball:
"From Pokémon Emerald onward, if either parent of a baby Pichu holds a Light Ball when the Egg is produced, the Pichu will know Volt Tackle when it hatches. However, Volt Tackle is not an Egg move, and cannot be passed down by simply breeding with a parent that knows the move. The only way for Pichu to hatch knowing Volt Tackle is for one of the parents to hold a Light Ball." -Bulbapedia
I'm afraid you'll need to get yourself a Light Ball (1 pc doesn't sound too bad btw)
Also, for compound eyes:
Since Generation V, if a Pokémon with the Ability leads the party, even if it has fainted, the chance of finding a Pokémon in the wild holding an item increases from 50%/5%/1% to 60%/20%/5%. (So 50 goes to 60, 5 goes to 20 and 1 goes to 5, the effect depends on the original chance the pokémon held an item)

i think there's a 5% chance of finding a Pikachu with a Light Ball. It took me really long to find my Light Ball too .

I believe I found a light ball in ORAS in route 120, the rainy one overrun by invisible Kecleon, near the bottom, but that could be wrong.
