Hi!

So, a while back, I read that Miyamoto considered the possibility of Retro Studios (of Metroid Prime fame) took a shot at the Zelda series. I cannot give a source rn but you can google it :p

What would be your feelings on this?

Personally, I would like it, since it seems they've done a good job on Metroid Prime thus far (not to mention, the attempt at 'japanifying' Metroid ended in Other M, badly.)

Also, both Metroid and Zelda have a bigger audience in the west, so letting a western studio put ideas on it would be pretty nice IMO :D

NO. THEY HAVE NO EXPERIENCE. THEY WOULD SCREW. IT. UP. Even if they do end up making one, which is highly unlikely, it probably wouldn't have the traditional old-school things that Zelda games typically have.

But they didn't have any experience with Metroid either, and it turned into a fine series :p

Maybe Zelda does need to deviate a bit from the strict formula, some fresh air.

That, I can agree with. I'd hope to one day see a more adult-themed game that is darker, more violent, and not so happy-ending like.

I think that the way The Legend of Zelda is currently is fine :p The chances could be rather drastic and that could cause some problems like fans not liking it, etc. It's almost quite risky, I'll say xD But that doesn't mean I'm not willing to try something of such sort, it could turn the other way :p

*cough* But most Zelda fans already have it as standard to claim the latest Zelda game is the worst thing to happen to the series and the one before that is objectively the best thing in the world, it's tradition xD

I don't think it would be too great letting someone else make a zelda game, I mean, Hyrule Warriors and stuff turned out fine, but I would probably have a tiny feeling of betrayal if I played a Zelda game that wasn't by Nintendo. It'd be okay if it was a side game, e.g. Link's crossbow training, Hyrule Warriors, etc.

If they could pull a Metroid game out after so long, then I think they can do a Zelda too.

Honestly I feel like they could pull of something unique. There take on the Metroid series was something no one had ever thought of would be a metroid game. I never saw a first person shooter i saw a 3rd person shooter where it was primarily a platformer but they did it and it worked flawlessly

I think that this would make for a very interesting game with a unique gameplay style (first-person Zelda, perhaps?) However, I do think that the Legend of Zelda series should stay with Nintendo's R&D1 team, rather than being outsourced to an alternate studio, no matter how closely they work with Nintendo or who well their games are made.

At first, I’d be kinda scared, considering how bad the Philips CD-i games were. But at the same time, I’d be super interested, as we all know that the people behind Metroid Prime are very capable at making games, way better than Philips ever was. Of course, there’s always the possibility it would be a flop, but it’d definitely be an interesting game, nonetheless. :p
