i have never played Pokemon and I have friends who say that I should but idk which to play. Can someone recommend on for me on ds. Thanks in advance!

For the DS I'd go for Heart Gold or Soul Silver as it is a longer game (you have to get 16 badges) and the features are better than in the other Pokémon games. For example, you can walk beside your Pokémon, which is a really entertaining feature.

Are you looking for a main series ds pokemon game or a spin off? If you're looking for a main series game I recommend HeartGold or SoulSilver, its much longer and if you love johto then this game would be just right for you! If you want a good spin off, there is Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky which is my personal favorite and Pokemon Conquest which I loved to late ;-;

I actually never got to play soulsilver/heartgold only the original gold for GBC.
I would reccomend getting some Pokemon GBA's on Ebay Although I know you said ds you could still use GBA on it.
Emerald would be nice, as well as Ruby or Sapphire.(After you finish SS/HG)
Hopefully you enjoy the series :)

If you had Game Boy Advance I'd recommend Pokemon Emerald, but since you said you have Nintendo DS I would definetly recommend either Pokemon Platinum or Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver. Pokemon Platinum is a main game in series and much like Pokemon Emerald was to Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire games, Pokemon Platinum is to Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. Diamond and Pearl were first main game series that introduced Gen 4 Pokemon but if you want to catch all three mascot legendaries in game then go for Platinum.
As for Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver they are remakes of the original Gold and Silver games for Game Boy Color and the main feature of the game is walking around Johto region beside your Pokemon.
Both games are awesome but if I had to choose I would go for Pokemon Soul Silver because i love when my Pokemon follows me around, I feel like a real trainer :giggle:

It could be anything for started

For starters I'd say Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver is the best choice since it's a remake of an older game and it has pretty rich post-game storyline you are collecting overall 16 gym badges while in other games you would collect only 8, proceed to elite four (four strongest trainers) and then to the post-game
I totally forgot about these two games but you can also choose between Pokemon Black/White or Pokemon Black 2/White 2. Pokemon B/W introduces fifth generation of Pokemon with completely animated sprites while story of Pokemon B2/W2 is set two years after B/W. They are awesome games too but for beginners I would recommend Pokemon HG/SS

If we're talking about strictly DS, it would be ideal to get either Heart Gold/Soul Silver.

These games are largely hailed as the best Pokemon generation since they came out originally on GBC, and HGSS really gave it the remake it sorely deserved. The region it is set in, Johto has a rich culture and many mysteries tied to certain areas, backstory in the mythology and even the technology. Not only that but it has amongst some of the biggest post-game content from any Pokemon generation out there, including a total of 16 gyms to go through (8 pre-game, 8 post-game.)

All in all you can't really go wrong with HGSS. It's pack full of content that'll leave you playing for some time. (Heck, I can occasionally pick it up now and again and can still enjoy the game.)

I have a gba but ds is better for me

White 2 is my personal favorite, heargold and soul silver are amazing (16 badges instead of eight), black 2 is as good as white 2, but know you don't have to own black or white to get the story. Diamond and pearl are good, but platinum is kinda like the directors cut, so get a that. Emerald is the best GBA, crystal is best GBC, and yellow is best GB. Black and white are pretty bad due to no endgame and small team options. All in all:
D's: platinum, heart gold, white 2
GBA: emerald, firered (remake of original, grew up w it)
GBC: crystal
GB: yellow
You can get the D's games on eBay's for about 20 a pop, same with GBA, GBC and GB are slightly more

Heartgold and Soulsilver seems to be winning choice :p But it is a really good game :3 It has a really surprising amount of content which is enough to keep you playing (I think you can explore 2 regions). This game will surely catch your attention so if you seem to want it, get it :D

For the DS, I would recommend playing Hart Gold or Sould Silver first. However, before that, I would recommend playing Pokemon Red, Blue or Yellow coming for the 3ds Virtual console. After that, Heatgold or Soulsilver, then emerald if you have the gameboy advanced and finally Platinum. It will be a lot of fun playing it that way!

Choose Alpha Sapphire. It's easy

I don't know which system you have so I'm just going to rate them all (I haven't played them all but I have played at least 1 game in every set)

If you don't know: Every game in the set (except for Red/Blue/Green) has the same adventure the only thing slightly different is which legendary Pokemon you capture first. The other one is available later after you beat the Pokemon League

Red/Blue/Green (GB)- Get it!! This is the first one and it is awesome!! You should get it especially because it's on 3ds virtual console (eshop) for only a couple of bucks.

Yellow- Same thing as Red/Blue/Green just you start out with Pikachu instead of choosing bulbasaur, squirtle, or charmender. So you can get it, but if you have Red or Blue or Green there is really no need.

Gold/Silver (GB)- Only one I haven't played. I have played the remakes though. So if they are just as good as the remakes, then totally try it out. If you don't have a GB you can always get the remakes (Heartgold/Soulsilver) on the DS

Crystal( GBA)- Like Yellow with Gold/Silver, I don't know what is different though

Ruby/Sapphire/(GBA) - Awesome games!! Totally worth getting! If you don't have a GBA you can always get the remakes of Ruby and Sap0hire (AlphaSapphire and OmegaRuby) on the 3ds

Emerald (GBA)- Same thing as Ruby and Sapphire except that the legendary that you can only get after you beat the league in Ruby and Sapphire is the first one you get here. There is also one new segment where you go up the tower leading to where that Pokemon is.

Firered/Leafgreen (GBA)- Remakes of Red/Blue/Green. That being said Red/Blue/Green are awesome so if you have a GBA and not a GB totally get this, or just get the original of the 3ds eshop.

Diamond/Pearl (DS)- Ok. Not my favorite Pokemon game but still fun to play. At first if I were you I would buy another game before these ones.

Platinum (DS)- Same thing as Diamond and Pearl except you get a different legendary first that wasn't available in both diamond and pearl until after you beat the league. There is also one added little segment where you travel throughout the world of the legendary Pokemon. Like how Emerald was with Ruby and Sapphire

Heartgold/Soulsilver (DS)- Remakes of Gold and Silver. Awesome game! Especially the fact that you travel throughout the Jhoto region and then afterwards you go to the Kanto region! (where Red/Green/Blue was)

Black/White (DS) - Good game, but not the best. Personally I found it better than Diamond/Pearl but not as good as the first three generations (Red/Blue/Green/Yellow, Gold/Silver/Crystal and Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald).

Black 2/White 2 (DS) - Similar to Black and White but also different. It is set after Black and White in the same place where some things are the same and a decent amount of the things are different: such as some gyms getting remodeled.

Pokemon X/Pokemon Y (3ds)- A good game. It was fun and introduced the new type of fairy Pokemon. Also the graphics got a huge upgrade by looking more 3d and realistic. It was fun and is a good game, but not the best. It's also good for begginers because the EXP share is so Over Powered that it gives EXP to all your Pokemon, not just one (like in previous games). This means if you're stuck in the gym or really just want to breeze through the game you can level up your Pokemon REALLY quickly. It also has Mega Evolution where certain Pokemon if you get their correct stone can "Mega Evolve" making them more powerful in battle. This wears off after the match, and makes the Pokemon more powerful and sometimes makes them a new type. Only one Pokemon can Mega Evolve per battle however.

Pokemon Alpha Sapphire/Omega Ruby (3ds)- The newest games and remakes of ruby and sapphire if you like or are interested in them, then you should totally get them. It's like sapphire and ruby, but with the added aspects of y with increased graphics and some Pokemon are now fairy type Pokemon. It's good. I would recommend this. It also has some new aspects with a new story after you beat the league.

Next remake in line- Diamond/Pearl remake

Sorry this is so long! There was a lot to cover!!

All I can say is go for the newest version.

Speaking of this, Pokemon Red Blue and Yellow will be coming out soon for the Virtual Console on the 3DS. If you're interested in oldschool games or the history of Pokemon main game series, you should buy a copy and give it a play.

This is very unlikely but if you are willing to spend the money i honestly think that you should work your way up so start with blue/red/yellow and then gold/silver/crystal then ruby/sapphire/emerald then diamond/pearl/platinum then black/white then x/y

By ds do you mean regular ds or 3ds xP?

If we're talking regular ds I'd say Heartgold/soulsilver IF you can find them for a good price, otherwise go with black 2/white 2. If you're interested in competitive and have a 3ds, or just want a bit of an easier experience/the latest game, I recommend Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire :3

To choose between the versions just look at the cover or search game exclusive Pokemon then make your decision based on who you want more.

If we're talking that you have a DS lite, I would recommend Pokémon HG/SS and Pokémon Emerald since GBA games have a slot for the DS lite.
