I mained Ike since brawl. I usually play slow characters because they usually easy to control and hit hard. With Ike I usually use jab combo so rack up damage and for defense use counter or aether for the super armor. I usually do reverse aerial attacks to rush and suck at spiking. Any tips?

Well, for starts maybe you should completely eliminate spiking with Ike as his recovery kind of sucks. Second of all you can go directly into a combo if you use a side special in the air. Now for this remember do not fully charge this. Release as soon as you use it and make sure you are sure you will land next to your opponent.

I also recommend not using his standard special as you can do more damage to your self then to your opponent. Good luck !

skip spikes/dunks, for racking up damage use standard b in air and hold till over opponent, or, you could dthrow into upb for 20-25%, use side smash on ranged/ dodging opponents, jab much, and most importantly, STAY TOWARDS THE MIDDLE OF THE MAP, you wont get lauched as far and recovery is easy as pie.

This is a good strategy too but you should use up/ side air instead of up special. Ike ' s airiel Moves are better as they rack up more damage and have little to no lag after use. Use your up smash instead of side smash as they basically hit for same launch power with up smash having the better range. Also you can just spam Ike ' s neutral a as you need to take advantage of his faster attacks. Utilize the whole stage. Even offline use omega stages and make your self comfortable with edge guarding. Besides that is Ike ' s specialty.

Don't try spiking with Ike too much. And also don't try to counter a lot either, it'll become predictable for your opponent so they could just grab you out of it. Ike is already slow as is, I'd recommend using Down Smash as a more optimal kill move since it is a lot faster than Side Smash and Up Smash. At low percents, you can do Down Throw to Up Air, but after about 30% you should do Down Throw to Aether, it's basically a true combo if the opponent doesn't DI away.

  • Only try spiking if you are trying to recover. Try a beefy up B (hold down during up B) and then let go so you don't miss the ledge.
  • This is medium difficulty. Try shorthopping and then using Fair and/or Nair and practice spacing it. It has a hugh hitbox and some knockback which helps when racking up damage
  • Use tilts more often than smashes as they are less punishable and deal good damage and even score you KOs. Forward tilt is the easiest, just walk and press the jab button while walking.
  • Harder difficulty. Same as second bullet but add fastfalling so you are less punishable.
  • Avoid going for smashes if your opponent constantly isn't getting hit by them. Up smash can be useful for reading air dodges tho
  • Avoid going for counter the first time your opponent grabs you.
  • Dthrow to up B or up tilt to shorthop (tap to jump off) up air

Ike's one of my rotating secondaries and I can vouch for this. Ike is great at spacing and, as one of my pretty good friends once told me and I agree with, Ike just destroys most of the mid-tier-and-below characters. Make use of his aerials, use his tilts since they're so strong that they're practically Smash attacks in and of themselves, use up-smash whenever it's safe, and don't get predictable with your counters.
Also, just for fun: using Aether below stage on stages with a slope leading up to the ledge will shift you to that edge but also hit whoever's standing in that area with your sword. It's fun and nobody ever seems to expect it.

Ah Ike. I liked Ike better in brawl. Well he has great grab combo to follow ups. First of all: down grab to up b is really common and down grab to forward air and down grab to up smash but you have to read what they are going to do. Also don't spike with him. You can get easily punished for something that will never work. Instead of spiking with Ike I recommend staying by the edge and charging up your special. His fire thing. Lol don't know what it's name is xD.

Umm for that throw combo up throw then upb works better since Ikes down throw launches higher. Just a small tie bit there. Also use tilts much more than smas attacks. While he does have strong smash attacks. His tilts allow him to lead into combos and can still KO an opponent anyways. As for eruption people usually fall for it some how IDK but it's all about how you're spaced. Ike imo has good recovery since he gets super amor with Aether and his side special gets good rang if charged enough. He can recover from most stuff just don't let yourself get in a bad position. Air attacks I would recommend using more often are fair and bair since both can kill plus are good for pushing your opponent away if you're both trying to recover. There's more but I don't feel like typing it all d:.
