I never have played pokemon.. sell me on it!

I have never played a pokemon game before. all i know is that it is like a rpg where you evolve creatures, as you level them up. I have considered trying one for the first time. I have seen on many forums, where pokemon is a big thing. What is so great about the series? I love rpg's like Phantasy Star( for the the genesis) and final fantasy, and recently etrian odyssey. I would just really like to know what the big deal about pokemon is. On a trading forum im on, i sent out a post about trying to trade/buy a pokemon game. The first rpg that i have ever played was Dragon Warrior for the NES. I was young then, and i know rpg's have grown a lot since then.
What are the selling points of a pokemon game?
 
Ok so you've played drsgon warrior/quest.

If you've played the monster series in that it's just like pokemon except pokemon isn't as complex.

There is a huge community here who plays pokemon,and if you aren't satisfied here try showdown.

You will have a blast with X/Y as they have the best graphics/Storyline in all of the games in my opinion.
Plus there are plenty of TOURNYS in pokemon if you like that kind of stuff .
 
  • It's you in the game. A lot of RPGs have the silent-created-protagonist, but Pokemon pulls it off the best.
  • Battles are fun and rewarding for people who know their way around the types (Fire, Water, Grass, etc.)
  • Capturing Pokemon and filling up the Pokedex has a real sense of achievement to it.
  • It gets the difficulty right, which a lot of games can't do.
  • The Pokemon are cute, mostly, and the characters are likeable.
  • Can stave off dementia and Alzheimer's disease, as remembering the Poke-details exercises your brain :p
I'd recommend you give Pokemon X or Y a look, or consider the upcoming remakes for the 3DS. Pokemon is something not to miss out on. :cat:

You should start by watching the cartoon/anime first. It will help you understand what the actual idea behind Pokémon is, then you can decide if you want to try the game or not.
 
No don't. Pls don't. The anime is horrible in describing the gameplay pls don't.

I might have found a deal on pokemon pearl, was that game any good.. im still looking tho, as that deal may now go thru..
 
It's a great starter,but for sure get xy or omega/alpha remakes of gen 3 if you don't you will MISS OUT
