Ok I know this works since iv done it before but I having been able to replicate it yet, also this might already be common knowledge but this is my first smash game so ya.

So I was just playing with one since iv been trying to use him in competitive. And this happened.
I was recovering with up b and the opponent tried to go for a smite and In doing so I caught him in the aether. It looked like I wouldn't grab the ledge but instead he got caught in the aether and on my way down he was spiked but I moved a little bit to the edge to grab it in the process and he died. I don't know if this was a glitch or not but I was about to die and I moved just a little bit towards the edge in a state where I was going to die. And I ended up winning.
I still can't replicate it though any thoughts.
I could have been imagining that I moved but he did end up during and I lived

Unable to replicate it

It might be a rather unusual sets of explanations by the game in my opinion so maybe it was a short glitch not anything of really expected but what your saying really sounds kinda weird to me :p Had to read that for like three times before fully understanding what you're saying . I bet your opponent was also confused by this :/

Sorry that I couldn't explain it well I was very confused by it and I still can't replicate so I'm assuming it's a one time glitch

Mike's up special is deadly when you get caught in the midst. Beginners usually spam that awesome move and it can do like 20% damage and pokes your shield. I hate it as a recovery though since there's not any horizontal momentum in it. I'd is awesome tho not good at recovering in my opinion.

he could do that in brawl its still hard to pull off because pros know how to counter it and know dont just go in the aether lol. But there is many ways to counter like going to the aether and do a counter for ike and marth and pulteana. And back air the aether

I hate aether, it can be followed up from down throw too so that is a great damage racker. But aether is predictable for counters because he has to catch his sword when going up and get hit by the counter. I use it as a retreat to ledge option.

I think they were designed to do that. Kirby and Mii Swordfighter can do that as well if done properly but I think it's almost at the risk of SD'ing offstage.
But these specials do have great recoverability as well so it's not a big trade for an interesting utility. Preferably against players who like fighting offstage.
