Hey all. Sorry i have been gone. Im currently without internet, but my fiance lets me use her phone sometimes.
I got pokemon x last week and im loving it. It is the first pokemon game i have ever played! When i get internet back i will most likely buy a pokemon from here.
But until then i thought i would make a topic.
Since im new to pokemon, i thouht i would ask u guys some stuff.
Is there anything i should know before i get to far into the game? Any suggestions about which pokemon i should train first? I would love to train a powerful owl pokemon, are there any in this game?
I picked the fire one for my first one. I also have heracross. Any advice would be greatly appreciated for a newbie to this?
Thanks in advance! Also i think it will be awesome to battle u guys after i train some up!

you have to tranfer or trade for noctowl or hoothoot only owl pokemon i know

there is an Owl pokemon, called Noctowl and HootHoot :) Hoothoot evolves into Noctowl, but i'm not sure when he evolves, or where you can catch it. sorry :(

You don't really need to know much in advance for this game. I remember in some early games where you had to grind extremely hard (or have 5IV pokemon) in order to defeat the gym leaders, you couldn't just train along the way. I recommend you train all your pokemon to a level that you think suitable, i.e. Lv 13 for the first gym leader, etc etc.

Is your Heracross from the Mystery Gift Event? or did you catch it yourself? remember, if your pokemon are way too overleveled, they will not listen to you. the more gym badges you have, the more higher level pokemon will listen to you. dopnt worry, if you have the gym badge that lets pokemon of that level listen to you, they will always listen to you :)

My advice is to play the game up to beating the elite four without overlooking things or getting into competitive play. Finish the game with Pokémon easy to obtain, or the rare ones that you just like, or whatever. Just grind so your Pokémon are above at least 5 levels than the trainers in the area you're in. (Though it's best if their level is even higher.) It should be easy with the EXP share on. ;)
When you've finished the game, and want to get into competitive battling, there are a few guides online; Even on 3DS Pedia that could help you out in getting into competitive battling. It's not a very easy concept to grasp at first for some people, so if you need additional help, just ask around on the forums.
Here are two guides from this site that could help you out in the future:

Good luck on your Pokémon adventure. :rotfl:

Honestly since this is your first time playing pokemon i highly recommend not worrying about what pokemon to get or anything at this time. The first thing i do in every pokemon game is play to enjoy it to it's fullest. Pokemon X is the easiest pokemon game that has ever come out in my option so that makes it even better for you to just enjoy the game. I recommend just playing the story for now and catch what ever pokemon that looks cool and use it for your team. everyone pokemon will be strong enough in their own way when beating the story so i wouldn't worry about it to much for now.

However it would be a good idea to grab a water type pokemon so you can use surf for the parts when you need to travel across water, and a flying type which could be your owl pokemon do you can fly places.

Hoothoot is the only owlish pokemon in the game with Noctowl being it's evolution. If you want i can give you a pokemon egg that contains a hoothoot inside so you can have your own owl pokemon when it hatches :3

Don't worry about anything us about the game for now expect for just playing it for fun and catching the pokemon you like and think look cool. when you beat the game then we can start looking at competitive battling and training pokemon to their maximum potential!

Heracross is indeed a good choice, and really when it learns Close Combat! After the league and the Elite Four i traded a Haunter to evolve it into Gengar, it's really helping me in competive battling. After the first gym i think i added a roselia to my team because it is a strong and quick leveling pokemon ( for me ) but like others already said, enjoy pokemon X to the fullest, the graphics are crazy and i love to wonder trade!

I would love to get an egg with hoothoot. How can u give it to me? Since i dont have internet, would it still be possible? I could try to go to library or just wait til i get internet, which will be within a month.

Also thanks guys for the fast replies! U all are awesome

Are you serious? I have never had that problem. Maybe for fighting Red, but the Gym Leaders and E4 in all the games are easy to defeat with the right moves, and the right levels.

I had that problem in Black 2. I only defeated Ghetsis because of a lucky critical.

Well, I have to admit that I couldn't get past May under the bicycle road for about a week.
