I'm getting a Wii u, do you have any tips?

Splatoon is really a good choice that you make since you are getting a Wii U 
But instead of The Legend of Zelda Winder Waker HD , I'd perhaps rather suggest first getting either Super Smash Brothers for Wii U ( since of it's more content and epic multiplayer ) or Mario Kart 8 ( a must have if you already have SSB for 3ds ) since they'll last more longer .
Unless you are a hardcore Zelda fan ...

It's great that you're getting Splatoon, it's a really fun game (well from the testfire it seemed fun). Splatoon's 4v4 gameplay seems fun to play and also the campaign mode should give some single player fun too.
Wind Waker HD seems like a good choice because, well, it is one of my fave LoZ games since the GameCube. I like the whole concept of sailing the seas and what not in the game.
You should try to get MK8 or Smash U if you want some real multiplayer action though, we play them a lot on this forum and it's a lot of fun. And if you want an interesting Virtual Console game then try Earthbound, it's a fun RPG with an interesting story which is on the SNES.

In order to get stuff from the eshop, you must have a Club Nintendo account. Also, you need internet access. I recommend getting Smash Bros on there. That game is possibly the best game made for the Wii U. I hope this helps. If you need help with anything, go to Nintendo America's official website.
