To add on to what @TAG said, participating in contests over on the Nookling Junction can help gain Play Coins. There are tournaments, lotteries, and much more every now and then. Selling pokemon and other in-game content can help too.

Except posting random stuff doesn't earn you play coins.

I did check the rules and I know that it says on there that if you're posting about random stuff then that means the thread that you're posting it on will be locked.

Random posts will be deleted and any attempt to "game" the Play Coins system will get you banned from using it.
