Its really hard to tell the difference. For me, a fan is someone who prefers somethings but is okay with other things, for instance, I am a fan of Mario but I am good with other ip's too. A fanboy is probably like, I love Super mario but nothing else, I will not change my opinion about it, even though the other ip's are good too.

Fanboys are not too bad, though its really had to make them change an opinion about something. Also, if they have good proof of why they like it, its still a fanboy but in a good way, being a fanboy is never bad honestly, its only bad in certain circumstances, so thats why I hate when people think fanboys are bad.

Fans prefer something but like other things too, its just they prefer and like a specific thing.

SO whats your opinion between a fan and a fanboy?

I'm a fan of Sony but I like Nintendo and Microsoft consoles.

A fanboy is someone who only likes (in this case, gaming preference) one company, like a Nintendo fanboy. People that will defend the company no matter how dumb their decisions are or how bad their games are.

Fans are normal people, fanboys are obnoxious. For example, a fan of a certain singer might say, "Wow, I really enjoy this person's music!" While on the other hand, a fanboy of the same singer might say, "omg I wanna have his babies!!!1!"

The same goes for video games I guess. To be honest I'm probably a Nintendo fanboy.

I think this picture pretty sums it up. I'm a fan of multiple things, I'm not aware I'm a fangirl of anything really.

In my opinion a fan is someone who enjoys something, takes an interest, follows the news on it ect.
A fanboy/girl is someone who loves that thing and goes extreme for it. Ie following it on all social media. Going to events constantly. Talking and talking and talking about it. It's more of an obsession than an interest.

I don't think fanboys/girls are bad. I just think that they are passionate about what they like and there's nothing wrong with it.
I personally am a serious fanboy for the American TV show Survivor. I research it before every season, basically stalk and the contestants and seeing what their like. I make slideshows about it and when we watch it I need to sit in a soecific spot withy the volume on a specific level. Everyone must be silent and all the lights must be off. And I sit their with my hot chocolate and enjoy the show.
I'm also a fanboy for teen function. Like the hunger games/divergent/the maze runner. Actually definitely the maze runner I'm obsessed with that (James Dashner owes me an apology for ruining my life with those book. The destroyed me. So so so sad they are (Tommy, please!)):cry::cry:

In my opinion, a fanboy is someone who freaks out with the smallest mention of whatever thing they're obsessed with, and will instantly strike up a conversation with anyone if they mention a word about it. My friends is (unfortunately) a huge fanboy for One Piece and talks about it non-stop. It really isn't that bad though so, hey :p

By definition in CartoonRewind it is known that fanboys are people who say unreliable stuff about what they are a fan of which is, most of the time subjective arguments based upon their experience of the character regardless of their resources. Fanboys are scary stuff. Fans are intellectual people who live modest lives and input their experiences of games or research to other friends or fans and they are respectable people. There is clearly a difference but in subjective statements fans and fanboys are one in the same.

Well, I pretty much agree with most people here. A fan is someone who likes something. A fanboy/girl is someone who likes something and detracts the rest, most often without valid arguments since they didn't try the rest so they try to say things that are wrong.

For example, Apple fanboys may say "Android's interface suxx", even though they only saw TouchWiz (and I kind of agree it suxx), or "Kies suxx balls" even though Kies only applies for Samsung devices (and Android is not Samsung) and is not mandatory at all.

And for example, Apple fans may say "I know it's expensive for the hardware it is, but I like how everything is smooth and unified in the Apple sphere, even though you have to be part of that sphere to fully enjoy it". And even as an Android fan, I agree with that sentence.

A fan is someone who takes interest. A fangirl (le meh) is more of an obsession about a certain something of someone. Fangirl/Fanboys are not bad it's good to express something but if it's constant you probably need some mental help like me. All I did now was describe myself.

For me a fan is someone who likes something and talks about it. A fanboy is someone who thinks the thing they like is perfect and if you say one bad thing about it, they will hurt you. Not all fanboys are like this. But alot do act like this.
But hey, everyone is a fanboy in their own way. I can be a fanboy when it comes to Fire emblem.

I consider a fan to be a person of varying degrees who enjoys a given franchise (Eg, Legend of Zelda.) or brand (Eg, Nintendo.) only to a reasonable extent. They bring it up casually in certain social exchanges, (Eg, sorry, I was up late playing LoZLBW.)
and tend to have a moderate opinion of the subject.
A fan-boy or fan-girl would be one of those nuts who knows or thinks he/she knows everything about that franchise or brand.
They tend to hold it up to the highest degree of comparison, challenge most who disagree with their perspective, (happens even more than you think...) and probably have an absurd collection of related things.

I consider myself a lite fan to most things, and a pretty strong fan of a set few things, but if anyone dares to call me a fan-boy, Imma give them one of the meanest looks I got. }[

Fan - You enjoy things casually, and you dont feel the need to force everyone else into what you like and are open minded to what other people like and take some interest in other things

Fanboy/Fangirl - You enjoy things with your life. You feel that everyone likes the things you like, or at least should like and don't really connect well with fans of other people. You probably won't take interest in things outside of what you like and may only talk to a few people that are fans or fanboy/fangirl of the things you like.

It's hard to say. A fanboy(in some cases) could be a good thing. For example, if you don't know something about a series, you could ask them something important to that series. A fanboy doesn't really mean that they only like one thing, it just means that they like it more than many other things. A fanboy goes, "Whoop, whoop! There's another Star Wars movie!!! Let's all partay!!" A fan goes, "Oh, hey cool! A new Star Wars movie. We should go see it." But in many cases, a fanboy could get really annoying obsessing over their hobby. See the difference now?
