Does anyone hide the fact that they like anime here, or for that matter games or manga? I do, mainly because my parents have a very negative view of that sort of thing, and I'm curious to know if anyone else does

I used to. I used to think that it was lame or that people would judge me if i watched anime or played games meant for kids (Pokemon I'm looking at you). However as time passed, I just stopped caring about what people thought. It was really restricting and annoying to hide. My parents were disapproving of the same thing because they thought it waste a lot of time and they were the type of people who thought 'if you didnt do well, it means you didn't try hard enough' meaning if you had a hobby like this, it was a waste of time. However, I just kept at it and they are a bit more accepting. It helps when they can't supervise you when you are in college :p

I used to be a closet fan, my parents have a vary negative b
View of anime growing up in a christen hom (because of the swearing, blood, partial nudity, sexual per soon stereo types)
My dad is a little more lax with the exception of sexual stuff and my mom wants to keep a tight leash on me but she sees anime dosent do damadge to my grades or activities. It just takes a little while to get used to it. Yeah some people will judge you but other anime fans will be encouraged to become friends with you. So long as you don't go full on geek and let your whole life revolve around video games and manga then it dosent really matter.

If someone says to you "dud you watch anime that's so lame"
You just say "hey well it puts on a better show than your mom" in kind of a joking tone be careful who you use that on.
Be open about your passions but don't throw it in other people faces.

I was lucky enough one day to have watched quite a bit of fate/zero with my dad, and after he was like, dang anime isn't just for little kids and pedophiles so that's how my dad excepted me watching anime. My dad thought it s vary childish but when he learned its not he was oh my son is watching some BA shows.

Now my mom is another storie whenever she comes in the room and sits down I change whatever I'm watching to a non anime even if it's almost identical to the subject matter in naruto, I'm slowly getting my mom with the music from various anime that is vary relaxing. I am actually looking for an anime with out any swearing or sexual things in it but is still good to show my mom that not all of it is as bad as she thinks.

Just whatever you do DO NOT LET ANIME OR VIDEO GAMES GET IN THE WAY OF SCHOOL OR OTHER ACTIVITIES!!! MAKE SURE YOUR HOMEWORK IS DONE BEFORE YOU WATCH IT AND MAKE SURE YOU DON'T LET YOUR GRAD SLIP OR. ALL BETS ARE OFF!!!

So yeah don't be afraid of what other people think of you but don't go doing anything weird like just talking about anime to people who don't care, watch other tv shows and movies like parks and rec or the flash. And do not force anime on other people, you can be like hey bro I watched this anime last night there were so many people getting murrdered it was insane you might like it you should check it out, you know try introducing in ways like that and if they want to move on move on.

I am currently in high school so if you have any questions don't be afraid to ask me I totally get where you are coming from

I do, but only from my parents and some of my friends, most of my friends like anime, but some don't. The only time I showed anime to my mom I got grounded for a month, maybe Hetalia was a bad choice to show to my mom...

I actually know a lot of them. I also know a lot that aren't.
I know too many people that watch anime lol >.>

Nope! I am extraordinarily picky with films/animé/TV-series (the one exception being Supernatural, that's plain fanservice, but I watch it anyway.) so I can't say I am a huge animé fan. There are a few that I like but I don't have any reason to hide that.

Not a huge anime fan in the first place. I'm very casual when it comes to watching. I don't hide it but I don't obnoxiously bring it up and have it be the only topic I can speak about like most weeaboos.

I don't really like bringing it up to friends or people that are a huge fan of anime since they're awful to have conversations with, but that's just me.
