So every now and then whenever I would just let the CPU sit on random and choose a random stage the CPU and stage would be related. For example the other day I got a Link on Gerudo Valley and today in For Glory the opponent was Game and Watch and we were on Flat Zone 2. One time I did everything random and I ended up as Greninja and the CPU was Charizard while the stage was Prism Tower. Do you think the random choice is truly random or was all that just a coincidence?

It was probably just a coincidence. There's a sort of digital dice thrown to decide random events.

I dont think that that was actually completely random. after all, that has happened many times to me and in days of doing random in SSB3DS, I have NEVER gotten a mii character as a random although I have a friend who has played smash a lot less and gotten a mii brawler and swordfighter from random.

I think that it was most likely a coincidence like Derp had said , perhaps it was the system's algorithm or something that caused that . So I think that the Smash Bros Random Selection is really random but then again , I think it's mostly a coincidence :p

I'd say the random slot in character select and the one for stage select have different degrees of random. I'd say the stage select is less random, while character select is more random. Not sure how random stage select is when selections are limited to Omega only. Anyways, your experiences were more than likely the result of favorable outcomes from the system, how I see it.

I'm just guessing but the only time I've gotten a mii as random was when i had customization on. So I'm thinking that miis can only be chosen as random when customization is on. Just a guess.
Getting to the question, i dont think either that the random feature is completely random. Other than the reason that u guys already mentioned, i seem to get a bit more new characters added to ssb4 than the others.
I was thinking that the creators would want us to use more the new characters as they're new. Again just a guess.
And to tell the truth, I'm only alright with greninja and lucina

I believe it is actually random because I have seen the code/algorithm to do it online, and it is totally random. It might seem like that, but there a lot of Pokemon in SSB4 or characters from the same game, so don't be suprised when you see them together.

Hi Any One Want To Smash And Sorry For Reply;)

I think it's random but sometimes it seems like I get a character on random that has something to do with something I'm listening to and the 3DS has a mic. so I think it has something to do with it. Also I believe I've gotten random character that match the stage I'm playing but haven't done it in so long. In general I'd say I've used random so many times to say it is random and I've never gotten any Mii character before.

It is in fact truly random due to the coding however I believe miis cannot be selected. However for some reason more often than not I end up getting characters I never use such as duck hunt, wii fit trainer, and oilmar. I don't know if it's just rng hating my guts as usual or if there's something else behind it. Mabye it's the next conspiracy?! o_O

The usage of random selection goes on the basis of RNG, or random number generator. The way it works is based on the current date and time, then it adds the numbers together and the number it gets will select what the random character or stage your pick is. So you could say it's a coincident or that the time you picked it was just such. Plus since greninja and charizard were so close to each other on the roster it makes sense that they both were selected. Understanding the laws of RNG helps a lot, especially when you need a 9 with Game and watch!

In my opinion i don't think that smash 4 has a truly random option. i think its more like "i'm gonna close my eyes and pick a marble or something of that nature" its like there is a built in algoithm that just does a similar formula, but this doesn't apply to stages. i do think it s a nice touch to the game or a new touch to it.
