Nintendo has ALWAYS been weaker then the competition,

Back in the time of the SNES the Sega Genesis had a faster cpu then the SNES but Nintendo still won.

The N64 used catridages instead of CD's and couldn't play videos or music as the PS1 could.

The Gamecube was (obviously) more weaker then the PS2 and Xbox, you couldn't use a media player and didn't havean online service, but it still being a good console

The Wii was much more weaker than the PS3 and Xbox 360, and still manage to have a lot of sales

I think that the Wii U is no exception and it can survive this generation of gaming, i still have hope.

well the reason it's worked in the past is because they've brought a better game library to their systems. The Wii U hasn't had a truly good game library yet and it still has room for expansion. There is hope, yes, but the change has to come soon

I really depends on how you define weaker I guess. For the first 3 consoles you list I'm not sure most would consider them weaker ...

The color palette of the SNES destroyed the Genesis. It also had a much stronger sound chip, plus Mode 7

The N64 had 64 bit graphics to the PS1's 32 bits. Load times were virtually non existent.

The GC was visually as step up from the PS2 and (at times) superior to even the Xbox. It did have only a limited online presence, but it also had GBA connectivity, plus the GBA player to play on the tv.

Hard to argue the Wii from a tech point of view. Like you, I'm hopeful for the Wii U.

Yeah they always have been a little behind in specs. Noted. haha it doesn't bother me, I'm happy with what they are producing.

However the cartridges were really limiting and they had to launch the expansion pack for some games.

But I agree with what you say, definitely it depends on what we perceive is weakness and definitely agree with what you say about the SNES versus SEGA.

That aside I completely agree with the overall idea of the post. Nintendo has never really shown signs to care about being the top in hardware and in its own way it is a good thing because that is how their consoles are more affordable than the competition. I also remember they used to be pretty resilient, at least Gamecube and backwards, I am uncertain if that still stands today.

I also agree that the unique games really helped to push their consoles. Rareware was legendary in the N64 days as much as Nintendo franchises their games during that era was almost guarantee fun. I think we're starving to see old franchises re-emerge and new franchises to bring fresh air to Nintendo.

I too have hope in Nintendo, I think they know what they are doing and are trying not to make mistakes from past years like hurrying and show their console before the competition and keeping their strong cards in the making taking the time they need but still etasing us with the 'we're working on them' while still giving us other titles.

I feel like many people are treating Nintendo's WiiU catalogue like a children opening the fridge "There's nothing to eat" they will say even if the fridge is full because it is not exactly what they expected to find. There are good games out, and some new coming out soon. This is without undermine the general stale sentiment for the late saturation of Zelda and Mario games AND spin offs. Things could be better for sure, but in my perhaps-not-so-humble opinion they are not shamefully wrong.

I think Nintendo personally isn't weaker, despite the other systems having the capability to play music or movies, Nintendo hasn't ever let anyone down.

The other systems lose what's important, playing a game (seriously Xbox1?) Or their graphics for story line isn't so great. With Nintendo they stay true to what a game system should be for and they remain family friendly.

I think that perhaps it was the Nintendo consoles always had a lot more funner and better games and that their consoles always seem to do better , even if stuff like the features and experience were not present as other consoles had had . nintendo is always more exciting than the others in my opinion

The nintendo console may have been weaker in actually parts but they did have a stronger bond with fans and stuff. They had amazing family friendly, really fun games. Plus as kids we didn't know or care about processor speed, we just wanter to play some fun games.

Nintendo wasn't completely weaker than its competitors. The SNES had a nice sound chip and better color pallet. The N64 was able to play games with 64 bit graphics while other competitors could only play 32 bit at the time. The GameCube brought enhanced and brighter graphics with better sound effects. The Wii sold greatly mostly because it was a completely new concept, gaming with motion controls (then we got PS Move and Kinect). The Wii U seems like it'll last another few years before it gets taken over by the NX
