Hey guys Diamond here, I need some info on IVs and EVs. I know that IVs change your pkmn's performance and it raises your Defense, Attack, Speed, etc. But what about EVs? What do they do? Are they more important than IVs? Which is more Helpful? Please fill me in on what I need to do. Trust me it helps ;)

Sincerely,
Diamond

Ev's, or effort values, are basically bonuses to stats based on what Pokemon you defeat. A Pokemon can have a total of 510 Ev's, and the most stats you can max out is 2 with 4 points left over. Super Training increases Ev's, or you can battle wild Pokemon. Some items when held give you more Ev's in battle, and Using an experience share will distribute the Ev's equally. A list of Ev's awarded when Pokemon are defeated can be found here: http://nuggetbridge.com/articles/ev-training-hotspots-x-y/
P.S Ev's are more important.

My own two cents: IVs are special stats determined when a Pokémon is hatched, found in the wild, or otherwise encountered. There's no good way to check them exactly, and there is always one character per game who can vaguely sense IVs of your Pokémon when talked to. They also can't be changed at all. EVs are special stats than can be raised by defeating certain Pokémon or undergoing Super Training in Generation VI. EVs hold more sway on stats in the long run, and have a set limit of 510 total (256 max for a single stat.) In case you want to change them, you can use a Perilous Soup from the Lumiose Juice Shoppe, an EV-reducing berry, or a Reset Bag in Super Training. There are more details elsewhere, so look them up.

EVs and IVs are equally important, you'll need a certain number of perfect IVs and the proper EV investment in order to secure a 2HKO on certain threats, speed creep certain Pokemon, etc. IVs are Individual Values and they are very similar to genetics, they are determined from birth and can't be changed, you can check them via a IV calculator or by a stat judge. EVs stand for Effort Values, and are obtained by either Super Training or horde battles, they're like bonuses you can use to train your Pokemon in certain stats, to give them more bulk, strength, speed, etc. At Lvl 100, 4 EVs will raise a Pokemon's stat by 1 point, a Pokemon can have a total of 510 total and 252 is the maximum amount of EVs a Pokemon can have distributed to one stat.

I think Ev's are important becuase they're mostly using in battle effects and perfect IVS are relevant enogh due to perfect stats. So it's pretty balanced. Competeitively you might wanna think about both. ITS SO MUCH TO TAKE IN. :banghead:

IV's are basically the stats that a Pokemon has by default. A perfect IV example at Lvl. 1 for any Pokemon is 6/6/6/6/6 Or at least I think that is a perfect stats. The DexNav shows potential (IV's) 0 stars is 3IV's 1 star is 4 IV's 2 stars is 5 IV's and 3 stars are 6 IV's. EV's are effort values which can obtained by leveling up and battling

Regarding the DexNav, 1 star indicates 1 perfect IV, 2 stars indicate 2 perfects IVs and 3 stars indicates 3 perfect IVs, though if a Pokemon has more than 3 perfect IVs, it will still be shown as 3 stars.
