IV's explained

Okay so I've been playing Pokémon since gen 4 and I've just heard about breeding IV's. I got the basics but I still need a proper explanation but all the websites are just gibberish to me!

I just hatched a 12/6/6/7/6/6 and heard that was bad, but I thought 12/6/6/6/6/6 was the best! Explanation please!
