The Legend of Zelda has always existed in weird half-kiddy, half-adult state. The cutesy style of Wind Waker ends with a sword through Ganondorf's face; the innocent Princess Ruto gets swallowed by a giant, bile-filled fish. And Majora's Mask is darker than a Tim Burton fan's diary. In fact, Link might actually be dead during the whole thing.

There are too many examples to fit into this paragraph, so I'm going to focus on the biggest two. First, let's check out the Elegy of Emptiness. It's an ocarina song that lets you make a statue copy of yourself--quite handy for puzzles. But it only makes copies of characters that have died. By wearing the Deku, Goron, and Zora masks, you can make copies of the Deku Butler's son, Darmani, and Mikau, respectively. If you don't recognize those names, know this: those characters are definitely dead. But when you play the Elegy of Emptiness without a mask, you still make a copy of Link. Second, when you meet the Happy Mask Salesman, his first words are "you've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?" The only other time he says this? When time expires, and the moon destroys Termina. Poor, poor (totally dead) Link.

shoulda just posted this

Awwh dammit, someone beaten me to it xD

Welp back to the drawing board

Regardless of video or written, this theory's been debunked anyway since Twilight Princess Link descends from MM/OOT Link. Since they share a blood relation that must mean that either Link's been getting into adult stuff too early for his age (and I don't mean his adventures as Adult Link) or that he was alive throughout the entire game and lived on to have a child with someone in Hyrule. Most likely Malon since TP Link starts/lives in/near a farm.

But and correct me if I'm wrong because I was told this by a friend who's a huge LoZ nerd, Legend of Zelda takes place in the multi universe theory, so what if Majora's mask was just another timeline of when Link died? I mean I love Zelda but I never really checked up on the storyline as a whole. I just focus on the storyline of the games but this theory does seem plausible and who knows, could be the hidden theme the developers were going for?

That is just that; a theory. The official canon timeline (despite how convoluted it may seem) is the one posted in the book Hyrule Historia, which also tells us the earlier mentioned connection between the two Links. Here it is in case you haven't seen it before:

A Link Between Worlds and Triforce Heroes has since been added, taking place in-between Link's Awakening and The Legend of Zelda.

As you can see, Twilight Princess takes place after Majora's Mask in the Child Timeline, so that in addition to the blood connection between the two Links still debunks the theory.

How can the events of Four Swords be both after and before Majora's Mask? Is there a timeloop? I always wanted to start playing this series chronologically but that might be a problem now. :p

It's no time-loop although it's understandable to look at it like that. Put simply the big bad in Four Swords was sealed away instead of killed. Four Swords Adventures is around when that seal is either tampered with or broken and the big bad is killed finally that time around. (I'm not too sure about it since I've never played any Four Swords game and only read up on the former after playing Minish Cap.)

Oh. So some events of the game are before and some events after. Thanks for explaining. :D

Well that was debunked and i never belived it, it was dumb, the develoers didnt intend that and game theory is dumb and their theories are really dumb they only have like 3 great theories and all of them are old, Link isnt dead and all the videos of thet guy which had been debunked should be deleted

Im guessing you watched MatPat's excellent theory on this, as it is one of his best (I will always remember the days before all his theories became obsessed with FnaF and Undertale, which he can't seem to let go...:dead:) It really is an interesting theory though, and it explains a good deal of the game's darker themes...
