Hey guys!

While thinking of an idea for a thread to post in the Pokemon community, I've decided to talk about Magikarp. Why? Because it probably has a story we all can relate to.

So, first, we all know that Magikarp has to be one of the most bottom-of-the-Bibarrel Pokemon. It's got low stats, can only use splash and/or tackle, and is generally not the first Pokemon that comes to mind when asked about a fish Pokemon. However, when Magikarp grows to a certain level, it becomes the all-mighty Gyarados, an impressive beast that's the exact opposite of Magikarp. But is there a lesson to know from these Pokemon?

Oh yeah!

Now, Magikarp is thought to be based off a Japanese(?) fable about the fish and the dragon. The fable states that the fish is always tried to swim up a waterfall. When it is finally able to make the journey, it becomes a dragon. You can see this story in Magikarp's evolution line, so I won't go into any more detail, but how does that make Magikarp connect to us? It's simple.

Everyone has been a Magikarp once.

Magikarp is the empodiment of perseverance, a trait where when you fail, you try again. It's when you say "I will pass that test!" or "Darn it, game! I will beat you!", and trying over and over. Is this becoming more clear to you now?

We've all been a Magikarp because there was a time when our skills or talents were under-developed and sloppy, but we said "I will do this!" And now, here we are. All of you have made it past a waterfall to go from a fish to a dragon. But does not mean the journey is done?

Absolutely not!

You see, there is one difference between Magikarps' evolutionary line and our own line. Magikarp's only got two forms, but for us, we have an infinate amount of evolutions that we have the potential to obtain! When we jump our first waterfall to become that metaphorical dragon, that was only one waterfall! We start over, and become bigger, better, and more OP with each waterfall jumped!

"And that's the story you never knew!" -Treesicle

To be fair, the Gyarados has only 1 HP and Magikarp has 22. Magikarp has the upper hand here.

I already knew about the fable that it was based on, but this has got to be the most inspirational thing about Magikarp that I've ever read
