Not much, just killing dragons and eating gods

Mario always saves the princess in the Mushroom Kingdom, but he's not from that "world", right!?
The old Donkey Kong series bring Mario (as a villain) trying to capture a gorilla (DK). He's in "our" world in that game, right!?
Luigi's Mansion 3DS shows Luigi watching TV on a normal house. He's in our world there?

I want to understand how Mario & Luigi can transport freely between worlds. They simply enter the pipe and *PLIM* they're on the Mushroom Kingdom? '-'
Where do they really live?

Mushroom Kingdom. They have a house really close to Peach's Castle, which has been shown in Paper Mario and the Mario & Luigi series. Also, they were born in the Mushroom Kingdom as shown by Yoshi's Island, where Yoshi had to free Baby Luigi and the Stork to take the Baby Bros home.

I think hes moved to DK Island, based off all of the Donkey Kong Country games.

Yes, but then you look at Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door and you see that they have to take a boat to reach her castle, which would mean they live separate from her. Their house is also in a random forest somewhere, and I'm pretty sure it doesn't take place in the Mushroom Kingdom, so I see what @Barmont is getting at.

That boat was to reach Rougeport Bay, the first area in the game. Peach's Castle is only a pipe away, although, I do believe their house is on the top of a hill. It most definitely is in the Mushroom Kingdom, seeing as how they have the Mail Paratroopa deliver their mail in the first 2 games.

I'm not 100% sure, but Paper Mario is an alternative universe, isn't it?
