I was playing Mario Party: Island Tour earlier, and I was thinking about what Mario Party used to be: Going around the board collecting stars and coins. Now, Mario Party is just a game of getting to the end (and sometimes collecting Mini Stars and Mini Ztars along the way).

And so now I ask: What's your opinion? Do you prefer Mario Party 1-7 and Mario Party DS (Old-School) or Mario Party 9, Mario Party Island Tour, and soon to be Mario Party 10 (New)?

I prefer the old Mario Party. I only owned Mario Party DS, but dang, that game was good. I liked collecting enough coins to buy myself a star, and I liked beating everyone I played against in the minigames. :sneaky: I especially liked going to the Item Shop to grab an item that wins me the game! :D I AM UNBEATABLE! Well, except by stinkin' expert mode computers.

Anyway, what's your vote? Old or New?

I like Mario party DS and 8 they were way better I have Mario Party Island tour and I hate it I like collecting stars not a race to the finish. and its the 10th game in the series , Mario party 1-8 and then Ds then Island tour, and still no online multiplayer just a crap streetpass mode that's absolute crap ive only gotten 1 streetpass in all the time ive owned it, I would give the game a 4/10 for the minigames they are good but not the Party boards and im MP10 doesn't have Online Multiplayer I wouldn't buy it. Just my opinion though.

I remember falling in love with Mario Party 1 for the N64, then buying Mario Party 2 when it came out later, and loving it a whole lot more. The themed boards were actually interactive. The western board was my favorite. I never really played Mario Party 3 all that much, but I do remember slightly enjoying 4 when it came to Gamecube. Mario Party 5 though, is still my favorite Mario Party on the Gamecube, out of 4-7. I also remember enjoying Mario Party Advance for the gameboy and of course Mario Party DS. 6 and 7 were okay, and 8 was still semi-okay. But 9 changed the entire concept and I imagine Island Tour and 10 are the same way.

Definitely classic all the way. I am trying to save up enough coins to get Mario Party 2 from the Club Nintendo rewards, as I've already wasted mine on NES Remix and Super Mario 64.

run-on sentence much? :p Anyway, I agree with you, the minigames are good, but I don't really like the Party Boards. If I had to choose a favorite, I'd have to choose Shy Guy Shuffle, although you DO need 2 other HUMAN players for it... My second favorite would probably be the one with the Mini-Stars because it's the closest to actually collecting coins there is in this game. My third is the Bowser one, because although it's kind of the same sort of thing as the race-to-the-finish boards, it puts a twist on it. And what's up with those green spaces that do nothing? In almost all of the past Mario Party games, every space did something!

Mario Party Island Tour is the same concept as Mario Party 9, except you move separately, and from what I've seen about Mario Party 10 (which, by the way, is not out yet) is the exact same as Mario Party 9 (except for the plot, of course).

I always watched trailers and tv commercials about these games and really didn't the idea of it. Not til I was an adolescent that I got to play one of the first mario party games and I could get the idea of what the game was about. Unfortunately I was always alone so I couldn't party with more people, maybe that would have been funnier!

I feel that people overreact with the car system from Mario Party 9 and soon to be 10. I personally had no problem with it, although I do agree that the Stars and Ztars are rather annoying.

ds one 4life the end :wtf:

I want to try Island tour, but people have been telling me it's bad. I think Old School For the Win :rotfl:
I loved Mario Party DS. I remember getting together with my cousins and playing on ds download play. Also, I remember Domino Effect, The Soap Sink game etc. I liked the one for Wii too! I haven't tried Mario party Island tour, but people have been saying it's bad and the older gamer were better. I'm not planning on trying it because I'm tired of mario party, and It's really not as fun without friends.

The old Mario party was better, I still play Mario Party DS. It's a lot of fun, even if it has limited things to do. The only problem with the old Mario Party games is that it has a lot of Button Mashing. I broke my one good N64 controller. That was a sad day, a sad day indeed. But anyways back to Mario party, I just wish they'd go back to they way we all like to be ,old school. Oh and yes I know I voted that newer games were at the top but that was an accident, I missed clicked.

Not sure why, but I enjoyed the "newish" ones more... I played the old ones, but the one the DS was the best for me :p Probably because of the bosses... and the mini games didn't disappoint. I guess I'm that one "hipster" guy
"Pfft, that's too mainstream :D"

Mario Party for the ds was really fun i haven't tried any mario party games for the 3ds but i like the ds ones since i used to have lots of fun going through the game and collecting coins and all that plus it had those tasks in which you had to shoot others and keep on the sponge while not falling out.

Um, I'm not sure if you got it, but the DS version is the "Old-School" version, the only "New" version games (That I know of) are Mario Party 9, Mario Party Island Tour, and(Coming "Soon") Mario Party 10. No matter, I wasn't trying to convince you to join the Old-School side or anything... Come to the Old-School side... Come to the Old-School side... Come to the... *ahem* I was just a little confused is all. :)

I loved the old Mario Party games, they were always fun to play with friends(and they sometimes even broke friendships lol). But the new games just don't feel like that. Its just about getting to the end and I found Mario Party 9 extremely boring. I hope the next Mario Party games are like the old ones.

I get where you're coming from. Mario Party, the game that ruins friendships! ;) I love Mario Party, in case no one has noticed my description under my name.

I preferred Mario Party 8 tons more than any other Mario Party game. MP8 just nails the controls, minigames, and basically everything! There are also a variety of boards to play on. But I would rather play with a friend rather than myself because every thing is always better with a friend.

To I thought that the Mario Party : Island Tour would be a good game but when I saw it that was really when I started doubting the game . I also heard many bad things about it it being a not so worth game . Now that I know , I really liked the old school Mario Party games even though the Mario Party DS game was the first I played of the series . Hopefully the Mario Party 10 will be good ?

I thought mario party:island tours was alright The mini games for the most part are what keeps me interested in it tho. I was severely disappointed with how they made it more of a race to the end, although, I thought some of the maps were fun like kami koopas card map and the booster race map. I think in my opinion they could have implemented the whole coin and star monopoly portion but then again the boss fight mini-games are probably a big portion of why it wasn't implemented and Bowser's minigame tower.
