Generally, Mario (in terms of games and in a battle; both individually and as a group) wins for me, though I like both anyway.

Mario since he's been through countless levels and always manages to destroy his evil nemesis in the end. He also has a ton of powerups and gets his water from the Fountain of Youth (never ages). Not to mention, if you ever have a sewage problem, Mario and his assistant Luigi will be on the job for less than $99!

I chose Mario. (Keep reading.. I change my mind near the end ) And really I only chose Mario because he is Nintendo, because if he wasn't I'd go with sonic! I used to watch the adventures of sonic the hedgehog when I was little and like totally loved the show Too bad Nintendo never did get sonic from Sega... I'm kinda glad Sega kept him though, he wouldn't have fit in in the Nintendo world! So actually I changed my mind I choose sonic! Come on tails let's blow this Popsicle stand!

The beginning of the video @Reece shared really shows each of Mario and Sonic's capabilities if they were to fight, although the fight itself would probably not go in the direction it did because they are different characters with different traits. However, neither Sonic nor Mario have much experience fighting (other than primarily pouncing on enemies [Excluding Brawl]).

I know I might get some grief for this, but I never played much Sonic. I have always been a Mario fan and Mario games have some of my best childhood memories, plus it was the first game I ever played.

So with that being said, Mario has my vote!

I've recently become a Sonic fan after playing Unleashed for the Wii. It's a pretty awsome game. I used to be a huge Mario fan, but now I'm all for Sonic

Sonic because there is more action and Personally, I say better graphics and Sonic can change directions really fast in a 3D world. Mario on the other hand can't do that in its 3D games.

Sonic was cooler... I used to like Sonic before (when he first started out), but now... not so much. I think his character is just annoying (IMO). My decision is a little bit biased, because I love the Mario games so I'll choose Mario. I feel like the Sonic games aren't attracting my attention because of Sonic's new personality and his annoying voice.

Of course, in a battle of death Sonic would've won, because of speed:

I like both Mario and Sonic. But I grew up on Mario and I'm pretty loyal, so I think I would pick Mario in the end. Not that I have anything against Sonic.

Mario and Sonic have it equally match in some skills and abilities and Mario is more famous than sonic also while sonic has speed Mario has jumping powers while Mario has gold Mario sonic has super sonic but for my vote I will have to go with Mario.

As a character, I think that Sonic is better generally. He has swiftness, he is cooler than Mario, and is pretty powerful with his attacks. Although, he is a bit annoying, but he has a heroic personality.

As in games, Mario is way better, as it has more of an adventure. There are many levels of gameplay, also.

I have had both Mario and Sonic games but quite honestly I prefer Mario. I don't know if it is because I know him since I was a child and the first time I played video game someone gift a Mario game or why. The only thing I know is that I love it.
