A new mode that was introduced in the Smash Direct is called Masterpieces. It's basically a mode that lets you play classic Nintendo games for a limited time and it comes with pre-installed saved data.

I'm guessing every time you try a game, you'll start at a random point from the pre-installed saved data to play for a set amount of time then game over. Actually, it's probably just demos with a time limit (or it depends on the game). It's a great way to promote the games so that players can try some gameplay and purchase the full games if they like what they played.

List of games :
  • Super Mario World (1991)
  • Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels
  • Kirby's Dream Land (1991)
  • The Legend of Zelda (1987)
  • Pac-Man (1993)
  • Super Mario Kart (1992)
  • Mega Man 2 (1989)
  • Donkey Kong (1988)
  • Dr. Mario (1990)
  • Pitot Wings (1991)
  • Wrecking Crew (1985)
  • F-Zero (1990)
  • Metroid (1987)
  • Kirby Super Star (1996)
  • Punch-out (1987)
  • Kid Icarus (1987)
  • EarthBound (1995)
  • Balloon Fight (1986)
  • Kirby's Adventure (1993)
  • Super Metroid (1994)
  • Zelda 2: The Adventures of Link (1988)
  • Super Mario Bros. (1985)
I know I'll be trying out a couple to see how far I make it. What about you guys? What do you think about this addition in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U?

That's about the best addition to be added to smash I'd say! Looks like because of this feature (and many others) I'll have to be getting a Wii U soon :sneaky:

It's not an addition. It was in Brawl. As for this, I'd say they made the collection bigger.

Oh, I had no clue! I've never really played brawl :(

Yeah, this was already in Brawl, the only new feature is the fact that they let you go to the E-Shop to let you buy the games. I guess this is cool, but I wont be using this mode very often.

I never knew this was in brawl.

Looks like I'll finally get to test out Earthbound, and Kid Icarus. Also never played F Zero. GJ Nintendol

Not many know this is a thing in Brawl, from the looks of things.
Love the lineup. Might not play it as much, but a fun way to try VC games without buying them.

It seems like a pretty poor advertisement for Virtual Console games to me. It's fine for people who were going to buy the game anyway -quite a nifty bonus - but if it's going to be made to look like another reason to buy SSB U, I doubt it'll work the way it's implemented.

Wow I only have the demo at the moment and I already really want to get it but now they added this new feature...........Yep I'm totally getting this game

I look at it as a way to promote those VC games. Average Joe might have no clue what EarthBound is and after purchasing the well-known Smash Bros. for Wii U, he eventually gets to try EarthBound and decides to buy the full game via eShop.

As previously stated, this mode was already available in brawl, but now we can try out a lot more games. What I dont like though is that they took away ocarina of time from the demos, but that is because ocarina of time isnt available on eshop, and i doubt both ocarina and majora are coming out on eshop because of their 3ds remakes.

Ummm... Ocorina of time was one of the first titles for 3ds it was within the first 3 games released for the console so oblivious you don't know your facts don't talk like that unless you know what you are talking about okay

Wow! I am definitely looking forward to the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros. 4 now. It seems like people will be happy for this, as it is essentially getting a lot of Virtual Console games bundled with SSB4 :)
The titles I would love to relive are Pilot Wings, F-Zero, Kid Icarus and Kirby's Adventure
