Mega Stones

Hey guys Flaming here, Yes as you probably guesses, another question! So apparently mega stones are good but what exactly do they do when you use them... Do they raise the pokemon's stats because that what I guess they would do, just something like that, but if I'm wrong help me out here! Thanks!
