So, before MHGen was announced, MHX (Monster Hunter Cross) was already out on Japan for a long time. And with this new title on the Monster Hunter series, new monsters also appeared. And now, with MHX coming to the West in the form of MHGen, we also got to know the english names for some of this new monsters:

Dinovaldo
-----> Glavenus
Personally, this is the worst change they made from Japanese to English. I get the idea: it uses it's tail like a blade so, blade --> glaive --> Glavenus. But honestly, Dinovaldo was much better. It was much more relatable to the monster itself.

MHGen-Astalos_Render_001.png

Raizex/Raizekusu
----> Astalos
As the "Electric Wyvern", Raizex was suitable for it. It gave us an idea of what we're going to face. Astalos doesn't hint that much for the nature of this monster but it's something i can live with. It's name looks like something an Elder Dragon could be named (maybe cuz of Alatreon?).

MHGen-Gammoth_Render_001.png

Gamuto
----> Gammoth
There isn't that much to talk about. Personally, i like them both: the Japanese name sounds more pleasant to ear (i believe) while the English name fits the monster's nature better.

MHGen-Mizutsune_Render_001.png

Tamamitsune
----> Mizutsune
I like both names: both reflect the kind of monster we're about to face. But Mizutsune is shorter and easier to remember and pronounce so i'll "pick" the English name over the Japanese.

MHGen-Malfestio_Render_001.png

Hororohoruru ----> Malfestio
To be honest, i don't like neither the Japanese or the English names. While the Japanese name is as long as a Dalamadur (if you're here, you probably get the joke :p), i can't relate the English name to the monster in question. On a certain way, we can say that they complement each other: one has the size and the other has the "meaning".

This monster appears in this section simply cuz we've rarely heard about this monster's Japanese name, which appears to be Dosumakkao. We know it more for the English name of Great Maccao, hinting for the replacement of the Great Jaggi in MH4U.

This monster appears in this section cuz its English name hasn't been revealed yet (until the time of creation of this thread it seems that this wasn't true. Click here. It seems like its English name is Nakarkos). We know it by the Japanese name of Osutogaroa. I find the name really awesome and cool but its English name might be changed for something shorter.

So, what do you guys think of the Japanese ----> English changes?

Some of them are good, others not so much. Also, some of the images are broken, please fix.

I personally think that Malfestio is easier to pronounce than Hororohoruru (Try to say as fast as Japanese people speak without stopping or having difficulties. I dare you :sneaky:), otherwise, I personally prefer the Japanese names over the localized ones overall. Either sounds better, or sounds cooler than its localized counterpart (Raizex & Dinovaldo >>> Astalos & Glavenus. Seriously, Capcom ?)

Also, about Osutogaroa... Take a look at this. Officiously, the name is out.

Which ones? They don't seem broken to me :confused: Maybe it's of the web browser you use?

I'll do it for you then. Just send to me over PM the "edited" post, and I'll do it. Also, yes, images are broken, only the ones in the spoiler and Malfestio show up for me. Using Firefox.

Then it's probably cuz you're using Firefox, as i'm using Chrome and it seems fine. If someone with Chrome could say what they can see, plz?

Well, figured out why. It's because the images are in Google's WebP format. Put up PNGs instead and they'll show up. (Firefox, IE/Edge and Opera have no native support for WebP format, it's Google's way of annoying people by doing a PNG-esque format).

The images are fixed for me now. The monsters look pretty cool
