Basically what the topic says: what do you think is the most unfair way to die in a mario game? If i had to choose some id probably say what ive got listed here:

*trial and error in mario maker (the guessing game)
*comet stages in mario galaxy 2 where you have to get them all before the clock expires, you get all but lets say 1 or 2 and the clock quits on you at the last second (i died but i didn't really die?)
*death by losing a race in galaxy 1& 2 (again, i died but didn't really die, just lost a race not take a leap out of bounds lol)
*weird gravity flips on me and i take the last hit (mario galaxy series)

Those are probably my top choices, most of them are in mario galaxy and only apply to that series.

Bullet Bill'ed in Smash Bros.
...it's a Mario item, yes? >w<

Most unfair way? Bowser powers himself up with a magic stick and yells at you to take vitamins, and then after clawing you a few times, BREATHES FIRE ONTO YOUR PAPER FACE.

...then again, if that didn't happen, there'd be no "Paper Mario" story...

Getting blue shell'd by your best friend when you're about to finish the last lap in 1st place in a mario kart game, get hit, and see your friend and a bunch of cpu's take the first few places towards winning.

It's both unfair and still doesn't break the rules in the game, because that's what the blue shell is for.

Oh my goodness i cant even count how much times thats happened to me lol. Don't get me wrong, i know i have a tendency to break out in laughter over things like this but i also know how annoying it can really be XP just between you and me, im pretty sure this has a tendency to happen more on 150cc and everything beyond that (its super messy in 200cc mario kart 8, especially when you first do that as that one is out of control kingdom, youre literally forced to break in order to keep from slipping out of bounds so much). I personally thought mario kart 8 was easy enough, but 200cc took me a bit more experimenting to do well enough for all gold

The hard Mario maker stages are completely unfair. Some stages don't even give you a warning and you die at the very start of the level because a thwomp who was off screen from your view of the level killed you from unexpected contact.
But though such as life.

Yep, blue shells are the absolute worst. I can't count how many times this has happened to me. I don't know it's the most unfair way to lose in a Mario game. After all, look at the levels people make in Mario Maker. People often make levels where you get killed by a thwomp the second you start the level, just like the last poster said. However, it's certainly the worst way to lose in a Mario Kart game.

When I'm casually playing Super Mario World (SNES) and I need to get higher onto a platform so I jump off of Yoshi (Aka killing him, plz don't judge me lol) and I still die because somehow I still couldn't get high enough to land on the platform after jumping off of Yoshi.

So in the end I end up killing aka sacrificing Yoshi to try and save my life, yet I still die. Basically, I killed Yoshi and right after, Mario.
GREAT! (Sarcasm implied)

PS: There is a whole mario maker level dedicated to sacrificing Yoshi, but you probably already knew that...

In Super Mario Maker, guessing doors. Unless you get lucky, you die unfairy. In Mario Galzxy and other Wii Games, when your remote doesn't respond or your nunchuk autoaticlly drives you to your death. In Mario 3D World, thinking you can long jump a big pit, smashing into the wall, and plummeting to your death.

pretty much sums up what i think actually :p getting cut downstairs when you long jump a wide gap is a pretty mean death, then we have guessing games in mario maker like the guess doors you mentioned, along with what i call 'pick a pipe' which is based on the same idea but can actually be worse than guessing doors since going through pipes brings you to a subworld no matter what. this is normally not a big deal in my opinion, but with trolly levels its not something i would look forward to since there's no telling what kind of presents the creator has underneath here for us :'D another thing is fast moving platforms that change course when you jump and leave you skydiving into oblivion which is also a bit trolly and not the fairest way to die either
