How do you guys feel about movies or TV show adaptation of your favorite book or games? I mean we all know Mario Bros Movie was an epic fail but what about the FNAF movie that's coming out? Or the Assassin's Creed movie?

I'm only asking because ever since Cartoon Network changed they been turning to books to make TV shows.

One I remember is Scaredy Squirrel

It's based off the book by the same name

The book is for babies but I read them to my baby brother and he loved them. Scaredy in the book was a huge coward (he couldn't even leave his tree without coming up with 1000 horrible outcomes) he would wrap up in pillows and cushions and a helmet. The cartoon didn't match his personality at all.

But now CN has a new show based on the book Bunnicula

I seen clips from the show and Bunnicula doesn't seem very smart...He acts more like the characters that get on your nerves than mysterious and quiet like he does in the book. The cartoon is centered around a different family than the one in the book.

I wanna give the show a chance but I don't like how they did him.

I remember watching that Squaridy Squirrel show, and I didn't think it was something I'd rewatch over and over again.I have none interaction with the books, but I did heard nice things about it. :p

About you question,it really depends.I believe that when given to the right people, they can make a solid adaptation based on certain works.I mean,we all know the Super Mario Bros. Movie tripped hard on its shoe laces before, but then there are more obscure adaptations out there in the media that are actually good.
I know I talk a lot of Professor Layton, but to use an example here, the franchise's translation from videogame to movie,'Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva',recreates what the fans liked about the games kept with its original charm and structure, and it works because it's loyal and faithful to what it's being based upon, while also bringing in newcomers for those interested.Sure, pleasing the fans is always the main matter, but if you can do that, then why not go one step further and catch the interest of the newcomers too?
There's even a better adaptation of Mario's released seven years exclusively for Japan before the live-action port, and it is known as "Super Mario Bros.:The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach!".If you question me,this is a much better replication of Mario, and even if it might not call in for non-players of the games,it still looks familiar the whole way through. So you see, there can be good adaptations out there. You just have to put in your dedication and time towards it,and still recreate what made the original did right in its unique merits. :)

The shows based on the superhero comic books are generally quite good - the first real one to become popular this decade, I think, was Arrow on The CW - or, at least, it inspired a whole bunch of superhero comic book TV adaptations - and that was phenominal in the first two seasons. They changed it up a bit from the comics, as they wanted a more 'grounded' and realistic, so instead of the funny Green Arrow, we got a brooding Oliver Queen who came back after 5 years in hell and he became a vigilante called 'The Hood' by a lot of people, and as the series continues, he slowly becomes more happy and funny like the comic book Green Arrow, now in Season 4 we've seen him pretty much evolve a lot - but due to the rise of The Flash, a lot of the good writers left to that show now and Seasons 3 and 4 of Arrow have basically become bad romance fanfiction at times, which I hope will stop.

We also have Legends of Tomorrow which I will watch tonight, I think that's more of a 'let's create a new team using existing superheroes and supervillains' and Supergirl on CBS which is pretty decent, it will crossover with The Flash soon (and that means probably Arrow and Legends one day as they're all apart of one multi-verse, or 'Flarrowverse' as a lot of people call it) and after they kinda got rid of the ridiculous feminism stuff (I'm not saying that is particularly bad, it's just that they shoved it in our faces that she's female, but it's MUCH more effective if she just kicks butt and we just think to ourselves "Wow, she's awesome!"), it became quite decent. Gotham on FOX is also brilliant, season 2 has been wonderful so far and they've done a great job building up villains who I sympathise with - it becomes heartbreaking to know that Edward Nygma, for example, is destined to become The Riddler, and there is nothing I can do to stop it.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D is also very good, they basically decided to make a superhero spin-off without the superheroes, really, in Season 1. We get to see Phil Coulson lead a team of people who are quite normal, but not so normal :p , and as the superhero elements from the films emerge, we see people like you and me fight to survive. We also then get into a lot of the superhero stuff but in general, we still have a lot of 'normal' people in the show and it feels good to see them win battles. Daredevil and Jessica Jones are on Netflix, they're also very good and are without a lot of the 'network show' constraints, they're somewhat longer in episode length and more violent.

I also started 'The 100', which I heard is based on a book, but I'm not entirely sure how it measures up but they've done well so far. Under the Dome was a bit of a different story though (it's based on the Stephen King novel, for those who don't know), it started off quite well but they kinda just went off the rails a bit - it's like they didn't know how each season would end and just went with whatever came in their heads at times, but overall I liked the show, if Season 3 was a bit crazy and they just went in a very weird direction from what I thought would happen. They also really changed it up from the book, even the first pages are reaaally different and a major character dies in the book straight away - she's major in the show :p

Overall, most of the book adaptations I watch/have watched have been quite good, so I'm pleased.
