So heres whats happened. I was playing the smash bros demo when my 3ds ran out of battery. i plugged it in
and turned it on. the power light works and so does the charging light but the screens are black and also if i press L+R+A and up on the circle pad it goes onto the calibration menu and both screens work. and if i press the power button for 1 second it goes to the lock screen. when i tried pressing home on the lock screen it stays
frozen saying home. Any suggestions? please help!!!

You should just send it to nintendo for them to fix it.

Well they said its not worth fixing (probably to expensive) and that I should buy a new one but I want the data of the old one. I guess they could do that. Anyway I want to fix it or at least find out what's wrong with it.

The most common reason this happens is that the Wi-Fi card comes loose, which is a very easy fix, but you need to take apart the bottom of the 3ds. there are instructional videos on youtube so I'd start there. Please be very careful and don't force anything apart you might do irreversible damage. just be cautious and you should be fine.

Try it again. Push the cord back into, place along with card. Then clean the battery. It should work.

Ok now I'm really getting worried I turned it on just now and it made a loud popping noise and then turned back off again by itself. Then I turned it on again and the top screen lit up for a few seconds. What is happening.what did I do to deserve this!

The popping noise is what happens to me. Don't player for a while and keep it away from cool air. The wire is lose or the Internet card is out of place. Simply push them back into place

the popping noise only happens when it is charging. So weird!!:nailbiting:

Oh no I was wrong! It happened again

Ok so I have been messing around with it for a while. You know the speaker cord (top right) I found that it was a little lose. It turns there is small white flap which wasn't pushed down. I pushed it down the turned the ds back on and the popping noise is gone but the screen is still black and the power light is on.

Don't play not it while it's charging. Is there any water damage or something?

The popping is probably arcing from a loose wire, so as @Heropon Tatsu says, please don't play it while charging, it's a bit dangerous if there is a loose wire or something.

As Valk also said, that's how I ruined my 3ds. Was making the popping sound and now still makes the popping sound because I played while it was charging. It's stupid so don't do it

No no I fixed the popping noise a few minutes ago as I explained I just had to put the speaker cord back in properly.

Then I don't know what else to say.

basically the only wrong with it now is that it won't load the home screen. And the wifi card isn't the problem (I'm pretty sure). By the way did you ever fix yours.

Try booting with the SD card out, home screen would not load on startup for me before and worked when I did that.

its kind of hopeless at this point. You either need to take it to a professional, or get a new one for maybe around the same price. depends where you live. just make sure you SALVAGE THE SD CARD, this is the MOST IMPORTANT ITEM!
i would stop messing around with it if i were you, for all you know it could get fried. highly unlikely but still a possibility.

The new 3ds' do come with SD cards, but it will be difficult to transfer data unless you have a PC then it's fairly easy

Yea, I have a PC, but its a series that was made in 2007. Ive kept up the upgrades and everything, and it has super fast internet and the most updated version of chrome. It's a windows XP. You dont need windows 8 to do the transfer right? all you should have to do is stick the old SD card in your PC, make a folder and put everything in it, then when your ready stick the new SD card in and transfer it to the new card right?
