Naming your character

When starting a Pokemon journey do you just name him/her after yourself? What inspires the decision of naming the protagonist in your game?

I've named my character my real name since the beginning.

I use the name Mika, because it's short, sweet and many people refer to me using that name (only online of course!). It just sounds better than using my real name (which I'm not too fond of).

old games I name them by there manga names but if the game is new to me then I name the boy Rich

I usually name them my name. The only exception being Loz.

Sometimes I do name the character my real name, but most of the time I just use closest to whatever screen name I'm using at the time. For example, right now, I'm going through SoulSilver as "Ghost" (Lavender wouldn't fit ;(.)

I used to always name my character after myself because it was meant to be me in the game.

However, recently I've been calling my character 'Rachu' because I realised the play on words with Raichu and my name exists. :v

I don't put my real name in the games anymore, mainly because when connecting online in Y (which I do nearly everyday), I don't want a bunch of random people seeing my real name, since it's really uncommon, and I don't like it much. Usually I use my online alias "Rin" or "Rin-chan".

Sometimes I name a Pokémon after myself, but normally I just don't.

I always use my real name.

I use the elements, mythology and things of that nature. I choose these names based on the pokemon I want to use.

For example, one of my characters were Poseidon so I used a all water team

Back in the old Pokemon games when you couldn't choose your gender, I'd name the character after myself. However if given the choice I will usually pick a female character. I either name her Zoey after my cat or Sophia, because I love the name.

I used to name my character after myself, but since that name appears online everywhere, I've decided to use names like "sodajet" since it will be more recognizable. I'm always cautious when it comes to disclosing personal information on the Internet even if it is as petty as a name.

I normally name my character after myself unless the game doesn't have online play. If the game doesn't support Wi-Fi, I might probably just think up a cool name to use just for the heck of it.

I like seeing my Pokemon with the OT "Marc", :panda:

Similar to Marc, I name myself Alex. I like seeing shinies with the OT of "Alex". Makes them feel more special to me.

For everything prior to X/Y, I just named my character after the game title. So, Red/Yellow/Gold/Emerald/Leaf/Black/White

I don't think Platinum fit the character limit back then, so I just used my real name (as I did in X/Y).

Or if I'm just replaying a Pokemon game for fun, I usually name them something highly inappropriate. Because I'm mature.

I normally just name myself Fang if I'm using a male protag. If I'm using a femal protag., I normally name myself Hana. Just four letters, and it means flower in Japanese. :)

I don't use my real name for my Pokemon character. I used to, but since it appeared everywhere online, I stopped using it, even though I never used the internet for the games. I usually name my character "Calvin," since I like the name, and look like one.

Am I going to have to be the first one to say this?
Fine. Apart from my White Version (which was a pre-owned copy), I name all of my PC's the default: my RBY trilogy all Red, Gold for Silver and Kris for Crystal, Brendan for Emerald, Dawn for Pearl and Lucas for Platinum, Nate for Black 2 and Calem for X. I always had a feeling that the adventure the protagonists go through belongs to them and not me, so I prefer using their canon names as much as possible to provide some sense of continuity. I do however occasionally write my online alias using the back of the Trainer Card, but since that's not possible of the current generation...

I've used my real name for Gen 1 and 3 because I started off with those games but I like using original names for everything (with the exception of naming the Gen 5 hero NINTY and the Orre Hero Michael which is their real names). It just adds to the fun of controlling the hero that looks nothing like me.

Fun Fact: You can name a few different characters/things in the EB/M series.

I always have the main character be Ian/IAN which is my name But for OR/AS, I plan to use Ian as my name for the Nuzlocke challenge but when I reset the game, I plan to use Awesome.

I normally use my real name, but every now and then I use a random name or alias of mine just because.
