Way Too Old To Be Here
Towns Folk
As everyone here should know next year America and Europe see the release of the "New Nintendo 3DS" which is probably the worst named thing Nintendo have ever released. Along with the announcement that the new console will get exclusive games. How do you react to this?

Personally I think its way too early in the consoles life to fragment the market. Especially with the steam the 3DS was picking up and the money it was making. Also the leap from 3DS to new 3DS isn't a big enough one for me to get it. I hope Nintendo still make games for the other 3DS systems and don't abandon them. Maybe two versions of games?

That's my two cents. What's yours?

Well, I don't really like the N3DS' idea to start with, I thought it was another model with a bunch of gimmicks, but as you said, they want to release it way too early: the 3DS is barely 3 years old.

And just as you said (thread's title), Nintendo's trying to force the N3DS' sales by pushing exclusivities on it, removing features of some games by only allowing N3DS users to access it (I'm looking at you, SSB4, for nullifying the CPP's effects, yet allowing the N3DS' "Start Stick"), and they changed the design (Oh, my, why didn't you left Select and Start where they were, Nintendo ?), and put a way too small 2nd analog stick on it.

And not only that, and this time, (@Members who may want to say: "They just announced it", or "it's too soon") still no plan for actual 3DS/2DS/3DS XL owners for a potential upgrade. Heck, they didn't even announced one for the Japanese or the Australian release of the system.

So, yep, though some time has passed, and that I'm quite happy with Nintendo's releases (games) lately, I still can't accept the 3DS. They're trying way too hard to make us 3DS/2DS owners accept the fact that they just obsoleted our systems in a blink.

Exactly, I'm a recent 3ds owner and got it preowned. Because I don't want to pay the £250 plus price tag for a brand new one. I just hope they don't make a lot of exclusives and that this isn't the new handheld but mereley an improved one.

I am quite astonished by how easily Nintendo dumps their old gamers to sell more consoles. Have they learned absolutely nothing from previous failed sales? I take it as a personal insult. I bought the DS lite and when it died I bought the DSi only for Nintendo to announce the 3DS. I'm fed up by those marketing games really. I like the 3DS but it is way too soon for a new console, it's almost as if Nintendo decided to take marketing lessons from Apple (whatever if your product is still brand new, we're gone cut you of until you by the even newer version.)

An extra stick is pretty nice but the console doesn't seem to offer many other improvements. Why didn't they just wait, develop a really new console and release that when the market is ready?! Plus the N3DS is hella ugly. It's not just the moved start and select button, but the speakers are far worse too and the looks of the other buttons haven't improved too (who decided to add some M&M-ish colours? I liked the sleek chique look of the system!).

The limited content won't pursue me to buy a new console, there are tons of nice 3ds games and expect from that My 3ds XL is only 1 year old. They upgraded some things a little bit, changed the places of some buttons and that's it. They've added a micro-sd sot. Well woohoo. A usual sd-card is fine by me and except from that I'm pretty sure they will not allow you to download games on your micro-sd to play just music. Or woa, better camera. The camera is for funsies, if I want a better camera I'll buy just that; a camera.

Another (more neutral) way to look on the subject:

Here's the thing with exclusives: Nintendo wants exclusives to help sell their N3ds but game developers want an audience as large as possible so they will be likely to stick to the old market. That means Nintendo itself has to make exclusives (some features in Smash Bros. and an old Wii-U game won't do it) to promote the N3DS to get more buyers if they want the developers to become interested. If it's going to go the way it did with the Wii-U; it's going to take a while. Except from that, there are many great games for 3ds out there. There are many not well-know games for 3ds out there so you won't be short of games any time soon.

I'm not super thrilled about it, however I'm picking one up anyway. My launch system is worn down a bit . I honestly don't see that many exclusive games for it. But I will be ready when they start pumping them out for the system.

It is way too early for Nintendo to be coming out with yet another 3DS. However, they are trying to have a bunch of variety for their fans and consumers. People over exaggerate Nintendo's decisions by making a big deal out of them, especially world-renowned opinion-based game review companies such as IGN. These types of people make Nintendo look bad when they're really improving on their systems. Isn't improvement a good thing? (even if it comes sooner than expected and requires a little extra money from your pocket?)

Yes, improvement is generally positive. But... see the part of your message that I have highlighted. That's clearly the problems, we (3DS[XL]/2DS) owners are facing right now when we take a look at the 3DS.

Overall, I agree that some companies like IGN and stuff tends to exaggerate about Nintendo only to keep the Pro-S/Pro-M's hype for their website (you can't trust them anyway), but I still can't stand the exclusivities and the release date.

I thought there will only be a few people that want to buy a new 3ds. I know they upgrade many parts of 3ds, but I still think they won't release many n3ds exclusive game.

I think it's a good move for the console outdated hardware (when it was released it was powerful on 2011, but there was a big jump on 2012 making it outdated pretty fast).

It happened with the Game Boy Color and the Game Boy Advance after all :p
After the XL don't expect another console from Ninty, still I think the New name is really bad :/

I don't mind the exclusive content, I will probably get one in the future .-.

I don't like it! but this does not mean it is not a well planned strtategy from nintendo to get more income. If you think it twice, it is really clear that nintendo was hiding this from the very first time they released the 3ds. We launch a handheld system with some limited features and wait how the people receive it. Aftre seeing 3ds was a success, they started developing and correcting all the limited stuff that was in the 3ds to make a better product. Once the poeple got a taste of what the 3ds system was about, they finally stroke them with a really powerful system and now even with exclusive content

The story was quite limited...
I don't know if you saw the E3 event when they showed the 3DS, and technically it was a powerful machine.
What happened? Well, the next year there was a big revolution on handheld processing making the 3DS obsolete really fast.

One evidence of this is actually the N3DS cost the same than a 3DS. On Japan, the normal 3DS family is discontinued now.

If something bad was from Nintendo was releasing new 3DS models here when the N3DS was announced, and they will release it once the stock will be lower here. An evidence of that is the $50 pricedrop for any 3DS on the USA.

This means (i believe) the 3DS XL for 150, the normal one for 100 and the 2DS for around 70.

Honestly I dont really have any issue with the newest 3ds having exclusive content, just give me something to look forward to. :D Sure Nintendo has made their fair share of console blunders in the past, but as a die hard fanboy, its gonna take a lot more than forcing out older consoles to lose my support lol :sneaky:

I don't have any issue with this since I knew it would be coming. I can understand why some games will only be playable on this system. Since my current 3DS is starting to get some damage, I plan on replacing it with the New 3DS when it comes out.
