I have no problem with the newer model of the 3DS but I can't help that it is geared toward serious gamers than casual gamers. Think about it. The New 3DS has more buttons, better processing power, greatly improved 3D, and will have games that aren't compatible with the current 3DS used by so many of us. Why is that? The only reason I can think of is to push the 3DS to a more pro gamer level. Nintendo's past handhelds were made for casual play but I'm not sure if I can say the same for the New 3DS. What do you guys think?

No. You're telling us that something that has more buttons and more processing power could be considered as a "for serious gamers only" console ? So, if I apply your hypothesis to the actual gaming market, you're saying that the Wii U and the 3DS are for casual play, and that the N3DS, the Vita, the X1 and the PS4 are for serious gaming ? No.

It's not because the 3DS will get that small thing called the "C-Stick", the ZL/ZR bumpers and a faster CPU that it means that it'll be geared towards serious gamers. Nintendo rarely tried to aim serious gamers, and I doubt the N3DS will be an attempt at it. The hardware doesn't make a console made for serious gaming, and this is nonsense.

I could push the thing further and even say that then, "Android is for top-level elite serious players" since most of the Android Devices today now surpass the 3DS, and some of them even beat the Vita's hardware, but I'm not doing it because as I said:
1) Hardware has no impact on the aimed public
2) Does Android has more "serious games" than the 3DS ?

Conclusion: the N3DS isn't geared towards serious gaming. It's just a 3DS with two extra cores, and an embedded Circle Pad Pro. That's all. It doesn't bring anything new to gaming or something like that, and isn't geared more towards serious gaming than a regular 3DS/3DS XL/2DS.

Nope, he is saying that all of what you mentionned is for casual players and computers are master race.
Just kidding :p

Anyways, I am with D4rkDragon, I don't think it's more for serious gamers. Probably Nintendo wanted some new features in their consoles such as a new stick, new buttons, better 3D, NFC and a bit more power as a bonus, and instead of doing a complete new console with "only" that and for those who don't want to have a 3DS with 235 accesories, they made a half gen console that is just a better 3DS, not more.

Not saying I don't want one nor that it is not annoying to have a half gen console (can't decide if ill buy or not), just that I don't think it will aim another market than the current one.

Wait did you say will have games that aren't compatible with the current 3ds?Is that true but however the new 3ds is just like the normal one even though it has a few minor differences anybody can play on it,serious or casual gamers.

Actually, the "New 3DS" series (terrible name...) will only have Xenoblade Chronicles, a port of the Wii game, as an exclusive that normal 3DS owners cannot play; they might announce more exclusives, but right now only XC is an exclusive for the new 3DS.

Also, I agree with D4rkDragon; it's a great mid-gen upgrade which honestly should have been the original 3DS model. It's going to help with fighters/shooters but I don't think there are many with online multiplayer, let alone a competitive scene.

you know what name that would have been worse for the New Nintendo 3ds? The 4ds.

Yes, that is a terrible name. It should have been called the Super 3DS or something like that. 3DSi perhaps, that would fit in with the pattern with the old DS games.

Yes, I agree With you With both of the alternatives, ecspecially super 3ds. It would tell People that it is like the old 3ds, but it is "super". I love it! But they can leave the old DS names and start With sometthing completely New, like they did when they changed ds out With Gameboy. Gameboy was such a good name....

Well, the issue with that is as far as I'm aware the name DS comes from the fact it's a dual screen handheld. I think as long as the basic design looks like that, we're going to end up seeing the DS name like that.

I am with DarkDragon as well. Nintendo's main audienbce has always been the casual side, at least that is what they target. If they are able to pick up some of the serious gamers is up to their choices. The N3DS may sure have a more powerful CPU and an extra analog nub, but I'm pretty sure that there won't be any FPS games like Call of Duty coming out on it.
The extra CPU power will only allow for so much, as notice it is a CPU, not a GPU. Although a CPU does have some of it's own graphics rendering capabilities, the GPU does most of the work. Nowadays, people care about graphics more than anything else, so I highly doubt they would pick the N3DS over anything else.

@AliTheAce Of course! That's what makes it all the better. This also helps my study.

I don't really see the point in making such a distinction between casual gamers and serious gamers, I mean, we are all gamers indeed. If such a distinction exists, will you tell me what makes a serios gamer that won't make a casual gamer?

As said before more buttons mean nothing.
Nintendo caters to both sides so it'll be ok!

I guess but people have diff opinions on being a hardcore gamer and stuff. I think that they are pretty much the same. There are people spending thousands on angry birds or clash of clans or whatever and people not spending any money but playing some thing like world of warcraft and both probably think they are "hard core" gamers. Who knows, everyone who is a gamer is probably just a gamer. Classifying into hardcore and casual makes things more complicated :p
