Lots of people expect this handheld to be a full fledged brand handheld. Its not. It is there to enhance the experience with a few exclusives. It is a cool handheld but I would stay away from it unless you are a hardcore gamer. Save your money for the upcoming 3ds and wii u games instead.

No but my friend has one and it ain't that great. He let me borrow it for a week and it was pretty much the same as a 3ds. The new 3ds has some new games but its only because it has a little more power. Other than that, it felt exactly the same.

Well though I say that it's best not to discriminate the New 3ds XL if you don't really actually own one , but I can say that in my opinion , it's really more different in experience compared to the Regular 3ds . Better processing is really something major since many 3ds games today take a lot of memory like SSB4 and MH4U and with the face-tracking 3d and the C-stick , it's really a lot more different and better :p

I own one since close to its release in NA and I'd say that it's worth it.

It can read Amiibo, which you can't do until next fall if you don't have a New 3DS. It has faster download speed, faster loadings, an exclusivity and probably more coming its way as well.

The 3D doesn't give me headaches anymore, it has nice ways to save your battery life (I can use mine longer than I used to do).

The C-stick and the extra buttons are really nice, specially if you play games like MH4U.

The N3DS XL is a pretty cool upgrade from the original 3DS XL, since it has a better processor, face tracking 3D, and Amiibo compatibility. It's the small things like that people like the most about new products. My friend also has the N3DS XL and I tend to abuse the face tracking 3D feature a lot, plus N3DS exclusives such as Xenoblade Chronicles are happening, so there's some great stuff in store for the new system, give it a few more months in the market it might get really popular among Nintendo fans if it isn't already.
