The first redesign to the PlayStation Vita wi-fi model, the PCH-2000 series, will hit Australia with a 1GB internal memory June 4 for AU$269.95, Sony Computer Entertainment Australia announced today.

The design of the PS Vita PCH-2000 series is 20 percent slimmer and 15 percent lighter than the existing PS Vita PCH-1000 models. It also features a high-definition five-inch LCD screen, four to six hours of gameplay and replaces the proprietary charging cable with a micro USB cable. The new systems will gradually replace the original models at retail.

The PS Vita PCH-2000 series first launched in Japan last October, followed by a release in the U.K. on Feb. 7 for a suggested retail price of £180. The Borderlands 2PlayStation Vita bundle, featuring the new slimmer model and the standalone Vita version of Borderlands 2, launched in the U.S. on May 6 for $199.99.

If you already own the original PS Vita, check out Polygon's Vita comparison video below for further information on the differences between the Vita PCH-2000 and PCH-1000 models. For more details on the new Vita, check out our hands-on from Tokyo Game Show 2013.

What do you guys think about the redesign? Is it worth upgrading/buying? Let me know in the replies down below.

I actually own the model, glad to see the restof the world getting it.

/Side Note, I don't have enough memory for BL2 after downloading Soul Sacrifice, Gravity Rush and Wipeout 2014. So sad.

The screen is definitely an improvement. Everyone who wants to get one (including me, maybe this year if I get a really good result in my exams) should get the new one because usually companies stop supporting the older models after a while (e.g on the Neo Geo Sony's-Virtual-Console games like Metal Slug 2 on the PSN, you can't have Ad Hoc multiplayer on a PSP-1000). Checking out reviews to see if it's really as good as the brochure ( :p )says would be wise.

Nice. Is it worth the extra 20$ over the regular? I know that Borderlands 2 is a good game, but the touch only controls ruin the fun completely on the Vita.

@Spinnerweb I know about that, too. I had a PSP 2000 before my 3DS, and the screen stopped working. I went to get it repaired and they said you will have to upgrade to a PSP-3000.
Good to hear Sony is making small improvements in their consoles.

Aren't the models the same price? I know a few months ago the original model was only $199, and I only paid $199 for the new model w/ BL2.

Yeah, Sony should have added clickable joysticks. Rear touch controls are hard to use.

I remember the PSVita was 169.99$ before. That was either a promotion or you got it before the promotion started.

ohhh, I knew they were gonna make a new one eventually. xD

looks great! and more improved features! Hopefully we will get this model soon too.

I would get a Vita, if they would release Phantasy Star Online 2 in the US.

yes, we will too. Soon enough. Sony releases these models and then later on forces the user to upgrade to the newer version, and they give up support on the old models, like what happened on the PSP-1000.

Phantasy Star Online 2? I have never heard of it. What kind of game is it?

PSO2 is a free MMORPG made by Sega, I use to play Phantasy star online for the Dreamcast all the time. Then use to have Phantasy star universe for the 360, I still have Phantasy star online episodes 1&2 on the GameCube.

Nice. I do like Fantasy MORPGs, not a huge fan of them though. The Sega Dreamcast had online capabilities?!

Yep, it even had a web browser on it.

Whoa. I know that the Dreamcast was so unpopular, but I never knew it had those features
Maybe it sold less due to poor marketing.
