Nexomon: Extinction is a new Pokemon-like game coming to the Nintendo Switch. It looks a lot like the GBA Pokemon games with slight changes to the battle interface. During its gameplay, you can fight and catch other Nexomon.

The name itself sounds a bit like Pokemon, if you ask me

You'll join the Tamer's guild and fight to stop the Tyrant Nexomon who are devastating the world.

Catching Nexomon:

With a minigame, various types of food, traps and more, there are many ways to improve your chances of capturing a monster in Nexomon: Extinction! Study which treats the Nexomon you are hunting likes to eat, which trap is most effective against their elemental type and practice the minigame to become a master tamer!

Exploring the world:

It's said that if you like sarcasm and characters breaking the fourth wall, you are more likely to enjoy Nexomon: Extinction. I think this is something @Artisan might be into. Mostly the sarcasm part :p

The game comes to the Nintendo Switch on August 28th, 2020.

What do you guys think?

It resembles some Pokemon-ripoffs you see on the google play store, but obviously more polished. I'm probaby gonna skip, tbh, unless it turns out that it's a hidden gem or something.

Dang, seriously, that writing is on point. I gotta' take notes on this stuff. Capturing stuff looks really fun ngl. I expect some multiplayer of the sort but if not I wouldn't dislike the game. It looks like Gen 4-5 of Pokemon, but higher detail to fit the resolution. The thing against it is obviously Pokemon. Pokemon has mechanics that are really fleshed out like they way RNG works so if you really tried you can catch Shiny 6IVs in the wild if you knew how and you become invested when challenges arise against the game or other people. This game has more in-depth catching so I expect the more effort you put into catching the better stats means harder to catch yet. That's just a guess though. Pokemon has been around longer and people become better just by trying their swing at a team with age old weakness/stats/moves that have been around forever and this one just has potential by its side and sharing a likeness to other games to hopefully sell just as much. Heck if this one is cheaper/gets a physical release I'd try this one over SwSh that I skipped because playing means you needed to be invested since release to get good just like everyone else and the story isn't enough for me to be invested in Pokemon like that. XY did it best.

Funny you should say that because this is a follow-up to a mobile game that was released years ago. This has indeed been polished quite a bit compared to the mobile entry. Some obvious "borrowing" from Pokemon can be seen in many areas of this game, with the way the battle screen looks (they even changed it so the monsters look at the enemy just like Pokemon). Plus the tall grass and the general look.

It seems like the writing is decent in this. If anything that would be what gives it the identity it will need to differentiate itself from the Pokemon series. Otherwise it's just going to be directly compared to them, and then the toxic Pokemon fans will tear it up in user reviews and review bomb it for whatever reason they collectively choose. I do see some clear differences from the videos I've seen.

I'm willing to keep an open mind though and see what kind of reviews this game gets.

I got a gift card from work so I ended up pre-ordering it. No skin off of my back if it's rubbish and if it's good, then sound.

You're not going to regret this. I absolutely loved playing the game.

A short summary of things that I can think of right now:

Pros:
> Legendary comedy
> A story that puts Pokemon to shame
> Lots of Nexomon
> Great monster-catching mechanics

Cons:
> You'll be going back and forth A LOT just to heal
> You can't re-order moves (kinda annoying when you learn new moves)

I really like the animation and writing so far.

It's so refreshing to see there's some skill involved in capturing creatures, unlike in Pokemon. :p

I hope there's a female MC available.

It looks like you can't rename the Nexomon you capture... Aw.
