IGN recently did an Interview with a Nintendo spokesperson, saying that Nintendo will save cloud saves for six months after a Nintendo Switch Online subscription expires.

Original Article: http://ca.ign.com/articles/2018/09/...-after-your-switch-online-subscription-lapses

The spokesperson has stated that "should a Switch owner resubscribe to Switch Online within 180 days, or six months, after their subscription ends, users can still recover their previous cloud saves."

This is a very similar system to Sony's where if your subscription is gone, and something happens to your switch within a 180 day time period, the user can re-buy the subscription and recover previous saves.
Clearly taking a page out of the other console's book, each is a good thing in this situation.

Note that however, the cloud saves will revert you back to the state your game was in the last time it was saved, not what it is right now. Also won't include the games you bought after your subscription ended. So you will lose save data for those games and lose some progression in others.
This is just like how it is for other consoles though, so don't get too mad.

Also remember that not all games are supported, unfortunately due to "cheating". Games like Splatoon 2 and Pokemon don't have cloud saves. Unfortunately this is one of the biggest faults with this Cloud saves services, as Sony and Microsoft encountered this problem and instead found a way to fix it.

Huh. That's nice to know. Thanks! :)

At least it's better for Nintendo to clarify that there will be 6 months period to keep cloud save data if you forgot to renew Switch Online subscriptions, rather than having them wiped out once the subscription expires.

Told @SkyHuntress about this this week. Now they just need to add support for Splat2 :eyes2: (I think they rejected it but still)

Splat2 wont be added cause of hackers. It wouldn't be hard to find a way around that (like just backing up singleplayer data for example) but then people wouldn't like it cause multiplayer things wont be backed up.
