What do you guys think? Is this an attempt to push regular 3DS/3DSXL owners to buy the newer, more powerful New 3DS systems? Or will this restriction not have any affect on you? Let me know in the replies below.A NeoGAF forums member known as Cheesemeister brought the issue to light when he imported Super Smash Bros. 3DS from Japan, where it has already been out for a few days. The game itself works just fine, but the system is not capable of running the community-oriented Miiverse software at the same time. This means, among other things, that players won't be able to take and share screenshots easily.
A Nintendo representative on the official Super Smash Bros. community page explained the issue further, and Cheesemeister translated. "Miiverse cannot be run while this software is being played, so posting screenshots to this community is not possible," the post read. "When using this software for the New Nintendo 3DS or New Nintendo 3DS XL, Miiverse can be used while playing."
Although this might sound like a ploy to move systems, the reasoning behind the decision is actually fairly benign. The New 3DS and 3DS XL models have more processing power than the current consoles, meaning that running Miiverse and Super Smash Bros. simultaneously will not pose a problem. The current systems simply can't handle both programs at once.
While this situation isn't ideal, Super Smash Bros. still has a leg-up on the upcoming port of Xenoblade Chronicles, which won't work on current-gen 3DS systems at all. Furthermore, users can still share screenshots by saving them to an SD card and uploading them via Internet browser.
